Hey guys need someone to point me in the right direction here, I had my oil changed about 2 months ago and yesterday the oil light came on. I popped the hood and there was not even a drop of oil on the dipstick. I park the car in the same spot of my driveway every night and there is absolutely nothing leaking under the car. From reading other forums I guess its possible to have a leaky head gasket, but there is no smoke coming from the exhaust or the engine bay. I checked my coolant and it is very clean with no oil in it. The oil drain plug is tight.

Could the head gasket/valve gaskets be leaking only while the engine is running, thus burning the oil before it hits the ground? And since i drove the car for about a week with low oil could it have caused major damage like bent valves etc. Advice please!! TY

Try cleaning everything really good and then running your car for a little bit. That will help you find if it is leaking, and as far as hurting your motor idk could be messed up or could be fine. Just put oil in it and try it out.

Well the engine bay is very clean and no signs of leaking oil, I'm about to jack it up to look underneath. I had my buddy drive it today and there is a bit of greyish smoke out of the exhaust, mostly just when accelerating quickly. I'm stumped and don't know what to do

No signs of any leaking oil under the engine or frame..

You could try some of that stuff you put in your oil that reacts to uv light. Then you would know for sure that it is burning oil.

Any hint of blue in the smoke?

It has to go somewhere. White smoke would be coolant, if you had a bad HG it would be in the coolant and if it was leaking it'd be on the ground. Hows your compression? Your rings may be on their way out. On most cars the dipstick does not go very far into the oil pan. I can't say for sure about DSM's but chances are it's similar, your car should be all right.

Fill it with oil, check for smoke. After leaving it overnight see if it smokes in the morning.

you said you had the oil changed about 2 months ago

did YOU change it?

or did a quick oil change place do it?

if the quiky-lube did.... are you sure they put in the right anount of oil?

when was the last time you checked it? after the oil was changed?

cansomeone explain how a head gasket is the cause of a loss of oil? I can understand if it was leaking from between the head and block.
he says there is no sign of leaks... these are a couple of guesses.... bad valve stem seal-that would be blue smoke at stop lights and long idle periods. pull the top front time cover and check for bad cam seals- I would think there would be a puddle
Bad turbo seal?- blue smoke out the exhaust all the time, same would go for bad rings....

Well its non turbo but I'm leaning towards piston rings going bad. And yeah mobil 1 did the oil change, they showed me the dip stick on the full line after.. i checked the drain plug and its tight. I had it changed at 159,400 and I'm at 163,400 and 2 quarts of oil was gone

I'm going to do a compression test tomorrow. I'm going to be rebuilding this engine in 2 months, but I was curious if there could have been any major damage. I haven't noticed any difference driving it

a leak down test would be more helpful......

if it was bad rings. you would see smoke the whole time the car is running/driving.. unless you have a real good catalitic converter still in the car....
