Ok, guys, heres the deal:

90 TSi AWD- 133K miles. Just had the head re-done. Runs pretty damn good except.....

I got mad oil problems, yo, LOL! Tell me how bad I'm screwd. Here are my symptoms:

Right after I come out of boost, there is a strong smell of burnt oil. At least it seems like burnt oil. I am NOT leaking any oil as far as I can see. Somtimes a bit comes out from the seal around the oil cap, but it is not leaking from the valve cover, or anywhere else.

I had hooked up one of those neato see thru fuel filters to the side vent of the valve cover, the one that usualy dumps into the intake. After a few days, it was getting pretty full of oil.....

My dipstick is NOT poping out of the tube.

I DO seem to be loosing or consuming oil somehow....but heres somthing retarted....

I am missing one of the little 10mm screws that holds down the valve cover. I have noticed that somtimes after I drive, I pop the hood, and on the heat sheild underside of the hood has some oil on it, obviously from the missing bolt. My main question IS:

Would this be an extreme case of oil blowby? I know that a fresh built head on a high milage engine usually means the demise of the rings, but I'm not sure about these cars much. How much oil is too much? How long should I ride on this problem, and what would be the best, easiest way to solve it?

Thanks alot, guys! :) :dsm: :talon: :laser:

Some blowby is normal, but from your description this may be more than normal. Could be rings, but I'm no internals expert. I do know that what you described is more blowby than I have-- my catch can has about 1/4 cup of oil, but that's from about 3 months of use.

Do a compression test-- it's cheap and easy.

are the turbo and hacked filter your only mods ? not that it matter just wondering and. my buddys fills up quick when he Auto-X so if your driving hard boosting everywhere thats why it could be filling up so quick....the burning smell is from it landing on your heat shield. My oil pan gasket leaks just over my Downpipe and i can smell that burning off when i drive hard. Replace the gasket and bolt in your head....fill oil to where it needs to be and see what happens also check the oil every 4 days its not hard LOL....and do a comp tesst because something might be wrong inthere.....you can rent one for 20 bucks at an autoparts store......if you dont know how to do it let us know and ill tell ya. :thumb:

Yeah, the burning smell could be coming from the oil on the heat shield, but I just didn't think it could be coming all from there, due to the minimal amount of oil coming from that hole. That oil pan gasket might be worth looking into, I know I've looked under the car before for leaks, but mabey my gasket is leaking onto my downpipe.... and a compression test may well be in order. Thanks guys :)

Get rid of the neato see thru filter out of your PCV system, put a mitsu one back in, and put the neato filter in the breather!!!!!!!!!!!!! your sucking oil into the manifold. PCV is there for a reason it is a one way valve!
