I believe I have a 1990 oil filter housing.. I don't see any spots where I can attach an oil feed line from that goes to the turbo..

there are a bunch of alan bolt plugs in them.... take one of them out.... or you can always tap some oil from the head

i noticed a spot on the head.. exhaust/tranny side on the very top.. there is a screw hole that sounds like it is it.. i rather get it from the OFH because the oil pressure is higher, wouldn't that be a better idea?

If you run too high of an oil pressure you can blow out the seals in the turbo. Just run it from the head.

If I'm not mstaken Road Race engineering has a pic. i run mine from there. It's on the front side of the car ad there are 2 allen plugs and we use the higher one. the lower is not filtered. mark

That is only on ball bearing turbo's. Any normal 270* or 360* race bearing requires oil from the housing, the head would not provide enough pressure for a standard bearing turbocharger.

Then why do stock turbos get their oil from the head? I'm sure the Mitsubishi engineers aren't retarded, maybe just trying to save a buck with a shorter oil feed line.

Bottom line is the OFH may be better, so if you can, run it from there. The oil feed from the head would do too if that is your only option. It's your car, the choice is yours.

i've been searching this topic to death and I still can't find an exact answer to what is better - get oil from the head or oil filter housing.

I know this is an old thread, but I didn't want people thinking that this was an adequate answer to the question. The oil feed from the head (the stock feed) will NOT do for some turbos. It's not a matter of choice. It's a matter of knowing what turbo you have and knowing the best way to run oil to it. Mitsu engineers supplied the stock turbo with oil from the head because the factory turbos didn't require any more oil than that. Most Garrett center section turbos (excluding the ball bearing GT turbos) require more oil than what is available from the head. PTE won't warranty their (non-BB) turbos if oil is supplied from the head. You must feed them from the oil filter housing. However, there is a lot of pressure coming from the filter housing and in order to prevent too much pressure from going to your turbo, you must use a small supply line (-3AN is usually recommended). This will prevent blown seals.

If you don't know for sure, the best way to find out is to ask the company who built your turbo. Don't throw your money away by being in a hurry and listening to what someone "heard" from a friend of a cousin. Get it straight from the horse's mouth on something like this.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Thanks Chris. AGP supplies an -4an ss line for the oil feed which is to be taken from the OFH like you said for extra oil for the RS49-garrett hybrid that they sell. like Chris said when in doubt check with the supplier. mark
