I currently have a ported Evolution III O2 Housing, Apex N1 Downpipe, and N1 Catback. I need to have a quieter exhaust. I have already have tried welding mufflers/resonators to quiet things down, but still not enough. I have decided to use the stock catback with a cut-out on my downpipe.

With the angle of the Evo III O2 it causes a rattle on the transfer case. So if I am going to be doing exhaust stuff, I figured I should take care of this issue. I have considered just throwing on the ported 2G O2 on and then fabbing up my oem cat-back and cut-out on my existing N1 Downpipe.

Recently I have began to think about just using the complete oem system (downpipe, cat, catback) with a cutout. I would port out the 2g O2 Housing in addition to the cutout. With the downpipe open what downsides would there be to using the oem downpipe with cut-out vs the 3" downpipe with cut-out. Boost response slowed? Creep, etc? I am basically trying to weigh some costs vs performance especially when you consider being able to sell parts that I will not use.

RESOLVED: After posting a few threads on other boards and PM'ing a few people here and there, I decided to keep the 3" downpipe for both spool and power with the cut-out open.

Thank you for the link, the pics showed what I planned on doing with the cut-out. Unfortunately I have been unable to view the videos, I probably just have to download some kind of update. I will figure that out sometime tonight.

The website did not really share any details about the negatives and that was an aftermarket downpipe, so no comparison to stock like in my question. Does anyone have experience with a cutout on a stock downpipe and upgraded turbo?

Vibrant Performance is your friend. If you run it with a cat, it is nice and quiet. But if it is going to be with a test pipe it gets louder. If you are going to run it without a cat, then put a resonator in it to make sure it is quiet. Makes it a lot simpler. Good luck.

That's a good link. I didn't know you could run a 3" cutout with the stock exhaust.

Sorry for the confusion. The 3" cut-out would be with my current 3" downpipe. A much smaller cut-out would be ran with the oem downpipe. I will check out the link now. Thank you for the responses.

Anyone else have any speculation or experience on the Pros/Cons of Cut-Out on a 3" Downpipe or on oem Downpipe both with ported 2G O2, 50 trim, etc.

I just checked out that link. Thank you, but I have already changed out to an oval muffler and put in a resonator in the cat location. Also the N1 has two small resonators built in. I really do want to go with a stock exhaust for both sound and appearance.
