Odd sound need help

Hello all i have a 1995 Eclipse RS ... took it out for a long ride parked it in the drive way and went into the house . next day i hear a HISS sound coming from under the hood... sounds like its coming from the wut i think is called ecu ( its a cumputer looking box between the battery and the fuse box ) if i unplug the cable from the battery and then plug it back in the hisss goes away but if i dont then it will just keep hissing and kill the battery do i have to replace this or can it be something else ? thank you for your time

I would recommend getting the ECU checked over. Is it leaking or does it have a weird rotten smell to it at all?

Your ECU is inside the car not in engine bay. Please take a picture of the thing you are saying is hissing. Do you have any other issues other than the noise?

WRONG! his ecu is under the hood. He has a NT. Now if it was a turbo model then it would be inside the car.

i smelled it and it doesnt have a burnt smell and the outter shell of it looks allmost new posted a few pics so u guys can see it

When does this sound start to happen as you said when you unplug the batter it stops.

the only other problem that the car has is that it burns oil ... the hissing goes away if i unplug the batt and then plug it back in .. i unpluged the ecu today and used contact cleaner ..once it dried i pluged it back in and made sure the bolt that holds the wires in r tight i started the car let it run for 30 mins turned off no hiss so i went in the house chilled out , went to check on it still no hiss so i'm letting the car run for another 30 mins or so to see if it will hiss again if not then i'll take it for a ride see wut happens

Sounds like a bad ECU, as I've learned from many hardware components that any sort of weird 'noise' from an area like that turns out to be a bad component.

If you are going to correct someone...please try to use correct information!

op how does the hissing sound? if its almost electrical u might have a short in the board of the ecu

after using some contact cleaner he hasnt done it since i wanna thank everyone for lookin at the thread

That's good to hear, congrats on no more hiss! Just keep an eye on it because your ECU might be ready to go in the garbage!

i'll most likely buy another to have as a back up just to be safe
