I've had an unusual failure of my crank pulley. It seems that the weighted section fell off. I'm no expert on the construction of the crank pulley, but it seems odd for this part to seperate. From the looks of it, rust got in under the rubber.

I didn't even know the crank pulley was 3 parts.

One sharp punch of the throttle knocked it loose while I was autocrossing today.

It seems as if the rest of the pulley is perfectly intact. There are no cracks in the outer ring of rubber. Am I fine just driving without this weight attached?

I'll be ordering a new one soon. If this section separated, it can't be long before the other parts do too.

I'm mean obviously there is going to be more vibration probably not felt, but your bearings will not be very happy. I don't think it should keep you from driving it in a bind. But I would take care of it immediately.

Isn't the crank pulley important? I remember mine was bad and I was getting MASSIVE VIBRATIONS. So I replaced it, then the car was smooth as a Tokyo whore. I would advise NOT driving that car anymore untill you get one. A new crank pulley can be had for less than $100 if you lurk. Hope you didn't break anything else

Well it made it the 40 min back from the race track. I wasn't going to pay for the tow from there. I've tracked down another one. I really don't drive it too much during the week since I usually just bike around town.

I was defiantly the center of a lot of DSM jokes. Sorry to uphold the DSM stereotype. I was the only car to break down.
