Im kind of confuse on the qustion. You are swapping to a turbo motor you mean. Will from my experience with my gst. My younger brother accidentally pumped 87 into my car. I sure ran with what I got. But never did I pushed it till the next time to pump. Of course I added octane booster!
 
No, your computer will pull timing when it senses knock. You will not get maximum performance, but it will not destroy your engine. If you start pushing the boost up past stock levels you will want to run premium as insurance against detonation.
 
Anything lower than 91 is not safe on the turbo motors. You can get away with it if you stay out of the boost, but why chance it over a few cents per gallon?
