I've become suspicious that my OBD II/serial port connector has become faulty. It's the unit that comes with the kit from dsmloggers.com. I love the software and everything has worked great for a long time, but now I constantly get NO REV reads and no communicatino is successful. Does anybody know where I can buy a new unit, or how I can test this one? If you're still confused on what I'm talking about, it's the piece that plugs directly into the OBD II port which the hotsync cable plugs into. Thanks!!

probably the only way to test it would be to put it in another car. i know dsmloggers has been down recently but if you need a new one im sure the one from digital tuning, inc. would be the same, if it just plugs into the OBD port and sync cables

i dont know anyone thats used them or if they even make a obdII version but when looking around at different options before getting my pocketlogger i noticed the 1g version of the cable for like 25 bucks on ebay. but again i dont know if they made them for the 2g.

even then the obdII cable isnt manufacturer specific like my 1g cable so dont limit your searches to DSM related parts. any cable with the OBDII plug on one side and the DB9 on the other should work

If you wanted to verify it isn't an issue with your car, take it to Advance Auto, or Autozone. If their tool can't connect with the car I would suspect the problem to be with the car.

I am not sure on a 2g... but have you checked your Cig. lighter fuse? On other model OBD II vehicles I have run into this problem and it simply needed that fuse replaced. Just throwing that out there.

if you do take it somewhere like this make sure they try global OBDII and manufacturer specific. otherwise it might not connect. ive seen alot of 2gs only connect with one or the other. rarely ever to both. and it seems like its just a toss up of which ones use which as ive seen both used on turbo and non turbo 2gs

My cig. lighter port is good, I've had a radar detector in there for years, no problems at all. I've heard that it was also the door lock fuse. I switched that out last spring, and it didn't solve anything. I actually did try an autozone OBD II scan tool just last week and it connected just fine.
I've seen OBD II wires with the DB9 end, but it is the wrong kind...the palm n' stein kit I received needs the opposite serial port end from what I've seen.
Am I able to check the resistance in my unit, like checking the condition of an Idle Air Control unit?

It is good to know, however, that I should be able to use any type of OBD II connector, not one that is specifically for a DSM

:thumb: that was the reason for the OBDII, to have one scanner do all makes.

thats weird about the cable. is yours male or female on the logger side of the DB9?

hmm I think I'm confused on your question, so here is my setup all together...

[palm m100] <----(hotsync cable)----(female end) <--db9 (male)/obd II connector (male)

^ ^
One single unit

That make sense? I'm checking out obd2cables.com I think I can just buy the OBD II male end and the DB9 male end cable and hope that that will work...we'll see I guess. I'm just pissed that the db9m is $15 more than the db9f :/

thats weird. its backwards from mine and every other logger cable ive seen. everyone ive seen has the female DB9 and the ALDL connector on one cable with the male DB9 on the hotsync cable  that also means the hotsync cable itself is different from the ones ive seen
