Toronto,
Hey guys,

I am trying to get rid of my rear O2 sensor.

I found this site. http://www.thefbody.com/~95tsiawd

I made the circuit and it still doesn't work. Still get the Service engine soon light that when a scaner is hooked up, points to the rear O2.

I couldn't find a 12 ohm ceramic resistor so I used two 10 ohm 12 watt ceramic resistors for the heating circuit. This still gets really hot?

Those resistors should be enought to handle the 1 amp of currant that heats the sensor up according to ohms law.

Has anyone on here tried this? If you have can you tell me what you did?

Thanks

Adam

depending on what write up you used, i had to about triple the resistance to get it to stop burning the electric tape off...but i have no CEL now, just use like 4 of the biggest resistors u can find...LOL.

LOL........ My CEL light bult was removed anyway so I'm not worried about it kicking on anyway. I just wanted to see if it hurt anything for it to just be unhooked. Good deal. Thanks for all the help guys. :thumb:

BLOWS MY MIND why people do this. It is the stupidest thing you can do. If something goes wrong that isn't noticeable right away you are pretty much screwed because you won't know until it's too late. I just replaced a transmission in a 98 GSX because he took the light out and overheated his transmission and didn't know until it locked up on him. If the light it on. Fix it don't take the bulb out.

One other question. If I have no cat, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, 5 speed tranny, what would there be that could trip the CEL light that would not be noticed by the driver that could in turn be harmful to the motor?

ok so i know another o2sensor thing but iv done my research and i have built and o2 sensor bypass but it dos not get rid of the code i belive the heater part is working because it gets warm i belive its the other part i may have screw up heres a few pics of what i did

i used 3 50 ohm 10 watt resistors for the heater removal and used a 250 volt 1 uf capacitor and a 1/2watt 1 Mohm resistor
i dont know what i did wrong can someone please help me

LOL that would be the best way to do it but yes i followed it as it says do you need to reset the computer after doing this just wondering now???

Well, it's worth a shot. Easy enough to do, just disconnect the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect it, take a little drive and see if the CEL comes back on.

Hello all. I put a 3" exhaust which eliminated my catalytic converter on my '97 GST and I think it may have fouled the rear O2 sensor. I don't know for sure if it's just the miles or the exhaust that caused it, but do you recommend putting a new O2 sensor in or just using the O2 bypass method. Doesn't the bypass method act like a properly working O2 sensor or am I mistaken? Any clarification on this would help. Thanks in advance.

For a daily driver, I would put a new rear O2 sensor in.

Thanks. Will there be any issues though with the working O2 sensor and the lack of a catalytic converter? The car has been running rich since I put the 3" exhaust on. Will the new O2 fix this?

I have never crossed paths with a properly working o2 sensor bypass. Putting in a new 02 sensor will not fix your problem with your car running rich. The proper way to fix this would be to install a high flow cat. Without a cat installed, you will foul the new sensor and your car will always run rich.

Just a heads up, try cleaning your sensor with some carb cleaner before you get a new one. Takes 5 whole minutes and works great.

Have also heard that wrapping the sensor in foil works good for awhile.

No, it would just be a waste of a perfectly good sensor though.

No. The rear sensor has no affect on the engine's tune.

The answer to your question depends on what kind of emissions testing you have in the state that you live in. I'm in Florida, no testing here, I bypassed it.
