I have done a lot of reading about getting the O2 housing with the external dump and for the most part other than being loud under boost (and slightly illeagal), but would it negate the reason for needing a full exhaust system?

Will putting a full turbo back exhaust on differ much from just putting a tubular O2 housing with atmosphere dump?

Will putting a divorced O2 housing help with boost creep or boost spike if I don't put on a different DP and CB?

Because you aren't a newbie I am going to give you a question in place of an answer...

If the turbo is creeping, then explain how just replacing a part that is after the turbo is going to stop it?

An o2 dump doesn't replace a full exhaust, you'll still have backpressure behind the tubine if you don't upgrade the downpipe/back. Venting the O2 can help with boost creep because it removes the restriction of the stock O2 housing behind the internal wastegate.

That said, it is loud, it is illegal, but it's only loud under boost.

You want to have an exhaust system to remove gasses from under the hood, whether it's out the back of the car or through the front bumper.

If you have emissions, the o2 dump IS illegal, not slightly. It's an exhaust leak pre cat converter.

Unless i'm extremely lucky, I passed emssions with no problems and I have a HUGE external dump. Something that could not be missed during the visual expection.

Thank you for the consideration, and I am not ashamed to say after working on these cars I still feel like a newbie half the time....

On my last eclipse with a e316g turbo started out at 22 and would push up to 24, then I changed out my downpipe for one that didn't kink so bad with the e3 O2, and apexi DP and the turbo then spiked to 28 and settle at 24. I had turned up the boost controller to run the higher boost, but 28 was a little much.

At any rate that was last car, this is this car. I understand the principle of getting the gases out of the car. No I don't have emmisions so I am thinking that external dump and leaving the stock exhaust system on. That way under normal driving conditions the car is fairly normal, and then when I get into the boost it would be like having a car with an exaust system. Kinda like having the best of both worlds almost? I haven't owned or ridden in a car that has external dump off the o2 housing so that is why I am asking these questions :rocks:

Thanks guys!

It's time to start porting then, aggressively.

If you plan on sticking with your turbo then definitely look into porting. That will be your biggest aid against creep.

I am pretty set on a e316g or possibly a 20g, no desire to go bigger on this car. So your saying just port my stocker, instead of external dump?

Emissions or not, you can almost guarantee your state, county, and/or city has an ordinance regarding loud exhaust.

How did I get away with it at emissions then? I think you should look into your states regulations, but I would port and do an external dump (if you plan on making real power off that 16g maybe look into doing an external wastegate setup on it as well).

Let me google that for you:
28-955. Mufflers; noise and air pollution prevention; emissions control devices; civil penalty; exception

A. A motor vehicle shall be equipped at all times with a muffler that is in good working order and that is in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise.

B. A person shall not use a muffler cutout, bypass or similar device on a motor vehicle on a highway.

C. The engine and power mechanism of a motor vehicle shall be equipped and adjusted to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke.

D. Beginning with motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines of the 1968 model year, motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines shall be equipped with emissions control devices that meet the standards established by the director of environmental quality.

E. A person who violates this section is subject to a civil penalty of at least one hundred dollars.

F. This section does not apply to an electrically powered motor vehicle.

Every state, or county, or city, or all of the above, has similar legislation. Some laws have actual dB limits, others leave it to the police officer. I don't know or care how you passed emissions (don't have it here), just understand that your o2 dump is in fact illegal if a cop decides it's too loud.

Just really hog out the wastegate inlet from the collector side. If you look into it there is a massive mound that make the exhaust travel 90* to exit out the wastegate. You want that ported out so the exhaust does not need to make that bend to ensure that it is the least resistant path.

On the o2 side you want to port the lip flush that is located around the perimeter of the wastegate outlet where the gasket mates to the o2 housing. Porting the actual flapper hole won't hurt either as long as you leave enough of a sealing ring for the flapper.

If you don't have a die grinder, Harbor Freight has them for cheap. I've had mine for a few years and it still works great for the jobs I've used it for.

An open dump does sound sexy though :p. I like mine.

You got lucky, simple as that. That does not mean that it's not illegal.

Maybe at first but most people find it more and more annoying the longer they own it. I'll always keep mine recirculated as long as its a street car. Not for legalities sake, but for the noise.

That can be said for vented BOVs as well. Thought it sounded cool at first and after the 4th shift I wished it was recirculated again. My TiAL BOV sounds much better as it's quieter.

Function > Form

Function > Form

Quoted for truth ^

But some times Function can get in the way of form an vice-versa... .

I'm kinda swaying from what's being said BUT,
Really the only way to get around having some kind of Open DP and getting it street legal (Maybe) is it to put a Cut-out on it (these are cool Clicky) So you can Pass DEQ have a Cat. and still be able to flip a switch and by by-pass your restrictive exhaust and get around having to put a full exhaust on too. Alot of people get away with an atmosphere dumps since they only open when you boosting... But ya they are 100% illegal though places like here where their is no DEQ;) it's no biggie since nobody is looking underyour car... Though alot of people don't relize that their city/state has laws againt even putting anything besides stock exhaust on it (even if it's not enforsed it could be) So situations like that it a Cut-out would be Very handy since it would look stock:thumb:

Defiantly want a way to route it out from under the car depending on where it's exiting...

I loved my friends ssqv for about the first 2 weeks he had it and now i'm am much more satisfied with my tial as well.

Must've been my pink motor :D

I am not even sure how to respond to that....

So my question was answered in a sort of way. Will a external dump replace the need for having a full turbo back exhaust? No the gases still need to exit, and stock exhaust is restrictive.

Can anyone answer the question of what the HP difference would be between a stock exhaust with external dump O2 and a full turbo back with a recircd O2? Are we talking a significant number or only 2-3 maybe 5hp?

As far as the being illegal, I would think that having a external dump O2 would be better than having a full Apexi or HKS with the cat delete as the car would only be obnoxious when you are under boost, the rest of the time it would be almost stock sounding.....

As far as function>form, um I thought an injen intake, with a 1g BOV was a must have, and now I am really tired of not being able to hold a conversation whith the sound of the air being sucked into the intake and the BOV going phhhssssht..... This is kinda why I was thinking the external dump vs full turbo back was a better idea.

When I installed an open dump on my car, I felt a very slight difference. I have a 2.5 inch exhaust on my car with a real muffler and a resonator. I imagine adding the dump would be about the same difference as going from a 2.5 inch exhaust to a 3 inch exhaust. So probably not alot at all unless you are maxing out whatever you have on there now.

Id say get a nice 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust with a downpipe. Unless you're 16 years old, that open dump noise will probably get to you sooner or later. Its just too hard to go fast without attracting major attention.

Your question has been answered. If you dont mind risking the possible fail of emmisons (I passed just fine) then do an external dump and port your turbo.

Don't hate on the pink I did it to support the cure :thumb:

It would be a more significant amount In my Eyes... . But, really depends on the Car/Car's mods ... .

But All in all The turbo with-out a restriction on the turbine wheel is going to flow more and be able make more power then then one that doesn't it's not about the Gasses getting by-passed out the Wastegegate since that's wasted energy. But about the ones going by/through the Turbine wheel

And then you add in some porting and you're all set.
