Sup guys, I'm having a no start issue that I can't get to the bottom of. I've done damn near everything. I know my starter assembly is good, because I jumped the solenoid engagement switch to positive and the motor turns over. However when I simply turn the key while depressing the clutch, I only hear the fuel pump hum and relays click. I know the clutch switch is working because the hum only begins when I reach the activation point of pedal depression. I've checked and even ran new grounds, and ran a new positive cable as well. When I tested the solenoid trigger wire, I couldn't get it to give me 12v when I turned the key to RUN. I thought it may have been the factory security, so I pulled both relays for 5 minutes or so. Sadly this did not correct the problem.
So basically I know that the solenoid trigger wire is not getting power. My question is,which relay or what have you triggers that wire? I know there are 2 under the radio, on with 8 prongs and one with 4. I believe the smaller one is the starter relay? Anyone else got any ideas? I swapped the 8 pronger with another relay, it still just hums the fuel pump. When I pulled the smaller relay (4 prong) it's just completely silent.
This basically happened out of nowhere. Drove the car to the doctor's office earlier this week, turned it off when I got home and as of today I only get fuel pump hum and a click. I swear it's a form of controlled insanity dealing with these cars. I have had the battery checked and the starter engages (when wired directly to 12v), so I'm lost. I checked the underhood fuses as well, and even swapped the important ones out as well.
I was thinking of wiring a push button to the starter but would rather not have to rely on that. It's simple enough but it's kind of a rig job repair so I'd rather try to get down to the bottom of this. Does anyone know a chain of events that happens in order for the motor to turn? Oh yeah one more question, will the car start via push button in START or does it have to be turned all the way to RUN? The reason I ask is because I don't think the pump will activate when just turned to START right?
