I have been having some bogging problems which i am not sure why yet. I want to know what the spool up should sound like with a new hard pipe intake and 1g bov recirculated? I don't know if mine just got a ton louder when i got the new intake or if i have a boost leak of some sort. It makes a very loud hissing noise when it is spooling up. It seems like it got louder than it was before(even with new intake) but not sure. It hisses real loud even when not hitting the gas hard. I can easily hear it over my music also. Is this normal? Should it be very loud just with a new intake setup? If it is a boost leak than would that explain bogging most likely?

When you go from a stock intake pipe to an aftermarket pipe/filter the open filter element will allow you to hear your spool a lot better. If the car is bogging and you hear this noise even when at slight or no throttle then I would deffinately check for boost leaks. Visit VFAQ HERE to make your own book least tester.

Spool up is more like a whistle, not a hiss. A hiss to me would seem like a boost leak, like said above.

My 16G sounded like a jet and would hiss and make all kinds of racket even at part throttle. It happens when you add a metal intake pipe. The 50 trim by contrast is much quieter but I can still hear it.

Hope that helps,

Andy

P.S. Yes, you should run a proper boost leak test anyway...

It might be kinda a whistle sound also, hard to determine them apart. But it is very loud, which i like but seems like it is too loud(from a leak). The 1g bov also is very loud when it recirculates. Is that normal? It seems as loud to me as when someone vents to the atmosphere. Nice surprise?(in sound level) or leaking bov?

Ok well i guess that answers that part for the most part. Glad to hear it is loud like that. Love the sound was just worried it was not supposed to be loud.

Boost Leak Test... It's the easiest way to tell. You mind find something leaking that you weren't even questioning...

i would do a boost leak test as well. After changing pipes i would definitly look for a leak there of at the bov. I had a hell of a time with mine at the throttle body to tb elbow with the xs power fmic kit.

yeah i plan on doing a boost leak test as soon as i get enough time. I know i should just make one, but is there a way to buy one already set up? Never have time off work so when i do i would rather just test it not build one. But anyways. I just drove it now after tightening the connection between the intake pipe and the turbo which was a little loose. I just drove it and didn't notice any bogging this time, but my car keeps tricking me so i wont assume it is better until i do a lot of driving with the same results. It felt great right now, but only took it to 4th. It has to be something that is just loose because the bogging comes and go's whenever it pleases. I have new spark plugs i got to put in as well, but can't find my gapper or whatever it is called. I do need to gap them right?

I'd sell you mine, but by the time you pay shipping and actually wait for it to get there it'd be easier to spend 10 min at home depot buying the supplies and maybe 5 min at home putting it together...

Yes you need to gap them... What plugs did you get? Did you get new wires too?

I got the ngk 7's, and i did get new wires also but they are ebay ones 10.2 mm wires. Don't know how could the ebay ones are though. So the boost leak tester is easy to assemble? I will stop being so lazy and then do it myself when i get a chance.

I know how that is... You finally get a day off and you just don't wanna do anything(except drive) ha ha... If I were you I would just get the NGK wires too... I've never had a problem with mine... As Far as the boost leak tester goes, it's really not complicated... http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

By the way, the stock gap is between .028 and .031

Ok thanks a lot, I'll have to wait till the weekend and give some things a try to figure it out. Wasn't doing any bogging yesterday, but on my way home from work today did again, so I guess my car is just completely toying with me hahah.
