So I have been trying to figure out some way to actually view/ log my car. I have tried to use two different Palms but I cant get either of them to actually synch with my computer to put mmcd onto it.

So, I have been doing all kinds of searches on the topic and I decided to just try and use my laptop. I found a post on here and I found some good information about the Palm OS Emulator. I downloaded mmcd and the emulator and then finally got emulator to work with the car...somewhat.

I will click the monitor, button and after about 2 seconds of it starting to log it brings up this message....

<a href="http://s483.photobucket.com/albums/rr197/CLphotography_photos/?action=view&current=Palmemulator_screenshot-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/rr197/CLphotography_photos/Palmemulator_screenshot-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Any ideas would help and be greatly appreciated!

On some of them there is a place to specify the rom location. You'll need to change that from the default location (which would be the physical memory of the Palm) to a file in the installed directory. This should solve your problem, as from that error message it is trying to store on your computer's physical memory that only the OS has control over.

If you cannot find that specification in the emulator, you'll need to change versions so that you can specify.

Oh man, I think I might have just figured out my problem. I didn't "un zip it"! Looks like it might work for me now!

Thanks for the help LOL! I will be trying it in the morning!

Thanks again!

Cody

Ok, so it is still not working?

I plug it in, turn the car on and click monitor and it doesn't do anything. Before it at least looked like it was trying to read some information but now it just sits there doing nothing...

This is the screen as I see it...

What am I doing wrong now LOL!

Thanks again,

Cody

#1 you have to use a pc logger cable, pins 2 && 3 need to be switched

Really? Maybe that's why I could never get Pocketlogger to work through my laptop emulator. May have to try that. How would I switch pins; just cut and solder on the OBD side?

If you get another db9 cable (extension) and take that apart, you can save your logger cable in case you wanted to switch back at some point. I know having a laptop in my car on long trips is annoying and I like to have just the palm to watch my trims/etc.

I am tired of trying to get this thing to work for LOL! :(

Anyone local in CO that would be willing to maybe help me get it to work or even do some logs for me?

Thanks for the help guys!

Oh, I did have one question though, and this is somewhat off topic but...
How does a bigger fuel pump like a walbro 255 actually overrun the stock fpr on a 1g? Like what effects would you see from this? I have read that it will mess with the lower fuel trims a little bit but I cant seem to find what it actually means to "overrun the stock fpr." Noob question for sure!

I'm resurrecting this thread, cause I'm also trying to do what you were attempting here.
Did you ever get it to work? I tried to download the emulator from http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...os-your-laptop-no-more-needing-batteries.html and it said the zip file was corrupted.
So I googled the PalmOS emulator and got it from download.com. It runs, and I click "Start New Session" to change the rom file to the dsmap.rom, that option isn't there , so I can't go any further
Where can I get the dsmap.rom file, seeing that the zip file in the link above was corrupted?

I thought TMO wasn't free, hence why I was using MMCd.

Anyway, I've already downloaded the MMCd software, and the serial able looks easy enough to make (once I get back to the office I can rummage up an old RS232 connector and modify it to suit), so I wanna try to get this to work.

I just can't find the dsmap.rom file anywhere. I figure it's in the corrupted file I downloaded, but I can't find it anywhere else. Can anyone give me a link to this ROM file? Seems that's all I need to get this to work.

If not, I'll look at the TMO option, but as everywhere said the MMCd was free, that was my 1st choice.

Sorry to drag out this old thread again. I understand TMO logger may be a more elegant solution, but I am too curious to let this MMCd with palm emulator solution die.

I am running palm emulator, but it is asking for ROM file before it will launch. I can't seem to find a ROM file in anything I've downloaded, and though there are references in these forums to a dsmap.rom.

I also found this thread on dsmap:

I need to log a stock car right now.

But no resolution on the rom file itself.
I have not done any actual setup yet, but I am planning to put together my own logging cable for my 90 talon tsi awd, use the keyspan RS-232 USB adapter:
Walmart.com: Keyspan High-Speed USB/Serial Adapter, USA-19HS: Computers

and a female-to-female null modem adapter to plug it all in to the usb port on my laptop. If I have to use TMO I will, but I am curious if there is a resolution to this MMCd/emulator solution.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for your patience,
Matt

This has some Info that should be more up to date then this thread as far as just PC logging and cables et cetra...

I've been meaning to do a Write up for MMCD and the emulator on a pc. Just haven't got around to it. I do have a "package" though that I could email you. That will work "out of the box"

Thank you my1gdsm I use the o have it setup on my laptop and there use to be a writeup on it on the site but it has been removed. I was mainly asking for my friend. I may have to look into your setup though.

Please help me oout guys, I have FTDI chip cable USB to my lap top, Palm os emulator with MMCD running BUT I cannot see my logs when I try to hotsync them. I have windows 7 on my lap top. How can I hotsync the files from the emulator installed on my laptop.

almost four years later, the post above mine is exactly what my issue is. I can't get the logs off the emulator and opened into anything else? It's a .psf file if that matters.

Thanks
