You dont need to change your pistons rods anything internally to just do thr conversion. Your more than welcome to. Just dont have to. It you going to be going that far then you might as well switch to the turbo block as well.

Don't use non turbo pistons.

I'm building an engine for this conversion now. You will need new gaskets and seals, turbo exhaust manifold, coolant lines and turbo, turbo thermostat.. read up on that article it has everything you need

I've read many places that the 1g non turbo pistons are too weak as well as the compression is probably different so using non turbo pistons is not the best way to go. I could be wrong. My car came with one :)

I don't think that's completely right. Most factory engine are only able to handle up to 8-12 psi max. If you want to turbo a n/a then tune it for 5 psi or 6. Most engine internals can handle that well with minimal complications. Also that much boost on a n/a is pretty good too in terms of power. Also, not entirely sure, but you shouldn't need a new ecu. Most cars just need their ecu tuned to compensate for the increased air flow but you may want check up on that as I don't know what you car is in terms of ecu.
