Hey guys, sorry if this is thw wrong section to ask this question but i have collected about 4k to buy a car. I love the way the 1st gen DSM looks especially the turbo model but ive heard it isn't a very good first car(reliability once modded), so what iam asking is do you guys think that a 1st gen non turbo dsm is a good first car or should i be like everyone else and get a mustang or civic? Any opinion is welcomed and thanks in advance. :dsm: :laser:

agreed, just wait for the right one (one that hasnt been beaten do death) , and do your homework(on dsms of course).

im might as well tell my story... of how i got my car about 8 months ago

i had just turned 16 and a half and had about 4000 bucks i shopped around in the paper looking for some sweet cars for a long time my friend had a 95 talon nonturbo that i had liked and i saw one the tsi in the paper for 3800 bucks like months after i got my liscence i went to the guy to see what it was all about and had my dads buddy who knows cars fairly well come with me.. anyways it had 109,xxx miles on it which kind of turned me off but he then told me all the stuff that was done to it .. which was a new turbo new clutch new alternator new tires all new belts and new fans needless to say i jsut took my time looking around for the right car i had looked at mustangs a firebird and a couple others but found this one to be the best deal it might be a bit to fix up at first but once you get it going its a fun car... just keep looking for the right one my story really had nothing to do with it and i suck at telling stories but i felt the need to tell it... i suggest www.autotrader.com or www.cars.com to look for used dsms around your house and stuff it helped me out a good bit

Thanks for the replies guys i appreciate it and thanks for the story, i was hopin to hear that response. I know a 1st gen will have most likely over 100,000 miles so should i leave it stock and do the complete engine rebuild along with tranny or should i just do maintance and then start modifying it? What are some of the parts that go bad and break do to daily driving with just BPU?!st gens are very nice cars but the 2nd gens are also and plus they have DSMLink, did DSMLink come out for the 1st gen yet?Sorry for all the questions and not kissing butt or anything but you guys have a nice board here, alot better then some boards ive been too. :dsm: :talon: :laser:

4a. Maintenance - some newbies try raising boost levels and installing parts without doing the proper maintenance on their 5-15 year old DSM. Rubber hoses dry out, timing belts need religious replacement, oil, gear lube, coolant, and brake fluid have limited lifespans, and most parts end up needing replacement to work correctly. If you don't know when they were changed last, change them. If you don't take good care of your car, you deserve the problems that will arise from such neglect.

TAKEN FROM LUDACHRIS'S ARTICLE I DID NOT WRITE THIS LOOK IN THE COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS TO FIND MORE THANKS TO LUDA FOR THE GOOD INFO
