after hitting 4000rpm, there's a noise from the timing belt cover that sounds like the car is blowing up. ive noticed it, so i haven't really pushed it. anyone expereience something similar?

Yeh I had a noise something like that but it was around 1700rpm then went away after about 2200 rpm. Then I found out the noise was the timing belt rubbing on one of the covers. Too bad I found out after it snapped at 7000 rpm on the dyno. If its in the timing belt area I'd find out what it is right away. Not worth the cash to let it go.

Take the top cover off and see if the belt is rubbing anything, timing is nothing you wanna play with or push to the side and forget about it.

Oh, so if the timing belt is frayed and hitting the cover, removing the cover will fix the problem?

Come on Ron. Didn't you know that?

When I spun the bearing on number one, we just pulled the whole piston assembly and all of the noise went away!

When my lifters were making noise, I just yanked them along with the whole valvetrain. The motor's whisper quiet now.

Sheesh...

Man I wish I would have known that sooner, I would have saved some money and not gotten the 3g lifters. LOL

If you find out that it is a timing problem you should find someone that really knows DSM's and let them fix it.

i had a regular shop replace all the belts. haven't drove the car for two months till last week. i think ill have that shop take a look at it again. hope i didn't damage anything.

Just for kicks, I'd pull the driver's side wheel and splash guards and check to see if the crank pulley has cracked or separated. These can make an awful racket when they go bad and it's worth it to have a look considering that sounds are often tough to pin down in terms of location.

Keep us posted,

Andy

Make sure you have all the 10mm bolts going into your lower timing belt cover. Just last week I was having a phantom knock issue, I left one of the bolts out, and the cover was severely rattling against the motor tripping my knock sensor... noise started around 2200rpm
