Saskatoon,
when i purchased my car, the owner doesnt have a upper timing belt cover on the engine, and has told me that he doesnt recommend me put one on, as it causes premature wear on the belt, because it doesnt allow heat to escape the from under the cover. is there any truth to this or should i got to the local junk yard, an try to get a cover?

Replace the cover. If any thing like a bolt or large rock should get in between the cam gears your head will be toast.

get a cover for it trust me,, if your worried about heat you could always cut a piece out and JB Weld a screen on it

Absolutely none. The harmonic balancer has fan blades built into it which vents the timing belt case area. A pebble the size of a BB will make a DSM toss its timing belt and puke your engine.

Yes. Hyundai also used the Mits motor, check them as well. If you're rich, get one of the slick new clear covers.
