1G No TCU shifting options

Suh dudes, I'm about to pull the trigger on an auto trans, transfer case, and torque converter to do an auto swap. My current car is a 90 awd manual Talon, I would like to not run a TCU and run a ratchet shifter if possible, I am aware of some shift boxes but I would like to keep it as simple as possible. What are my options? I know I don't have all the items needed for the swap right now obviously. It's a work in progress. Trans and transfercase will be from a 92

Also can I use my stock rear end gear ratio with the new auto trans and case? Or will I need a new rear end? Thank yas

You cant really run a "ratchet" shifter in these cars, the transmission is electronically shifted, the only gears manually selected are reverse and drive.

OP, look into the kiggly 'manumatic' mod. It can be used in conjunction with a ratchet shifter to have 100% control over your shifts, not to mention it ups the fun factor about 100% banging your shifts home. You can also try the 3G sportronic shifter and shift-box combo. Lots of options for you out there. Just do some research.

Oh, you can INSTALL a ratchet shifter on any car, however it wont work like he wants it to such as how a Chevy auto ratchet shifter works, so NO not wrong, I have been rebuilding these autos for years and years I think I know how they work, it can work in "conjunction" all it wants, its still not a true ratchet shifting setup with a manual valve body like he's wanting.

Do you know him personally? I didn't see a single mention of the word "manual valvebody" anywhere in his original post. He asked if a ratchet shifter can be used without a shift box. The answer is yes. Unless you know him personally or can read minds, then yes...you are wrong. I've been into the auto's since before '05 when you could get a freshly rebuilt unit for $200 because people thought they were junk. But this isn't a measuring contest.

Don't be a dick about it, peanut. The OP seems to have totally misunderstood your misinformation too, as evident by his post about having to run a stock shifter and a shiftbox.

Okay so this is how I'm getting this. You CAN of course use a ratchet shifter as a normal shifter for P-D but I would need to do some wiring between the trans and the shifter since it shifts with solenoids. I would just need to make it so the ratchet hits a button to make it shift up or down? And I would need to wire in a switch so it would go into overdrive.

Thanks, I will be installing a ratchet, since I won't have a stock shifter to use, don't hurt my feelings at all because the ratchets look badass in street cars

There is NO MANUAL VALVE BODY period, thats the bottom line, the transmission will always be electronic shifted no matter how you want to play games. I'm tired of every post on this site turning into some type of flame fest/never ending arguement. I already knew that someone would make a post with "Oh yes you can install a ratchet shifter blah blah blah" when I made the post, however when the op said "I am already aware of some shift boxes BUT I would like to keep it as simple as I can" THAT tells me that he wants a traditional type of ratchet shifter with a manual valve body, there is no other reason to have a ratchet shifter really.
