No Start (tricky)

I have a no start situation. I've got a '90 Talon TSI FWD. It has fire, fuel, and its breathing right. I figured the gas was bad, so I drained it and put good gas in it. Still, no start. Now if I spray brake cleaner into the intake it starts right up. It'll run for maybe 10 sec. and die. I know the injectors are working and not clogged up. The fuel pump is working. Its in time, otherwise, it wouldn't run off the brake cleaner. A friend of mine told me to check fuel pressure, so i'm gonna do that tomorrow. But besides that, I can't think of anything that wouldn't cause it to start. If someone could help me out, that would be great.

If it's got proper spark, timing, and compression, all that's left is fuel. Checking the fuel pressure with a proper gauge tester would tell you right away. Did you check the filter too?

Because the fuel pressure is good doesn't mean that the injectors are firing. If you have noid lights or a good volt meter, it'll tell you if the injectors are firing. I would check all the sensors for proper connections. Something as small as a frayed wire can cause a no start or sputtering.

@Ryan4dc.....Well I sat the injectors on top of the valve cover and turned it over, and my friend said they were firing off. Thats how we also eliminated the ECU.

Did this happen all of the sudden or was this after some kind of modification?

After modification. The guy I'm buying it from had some work done, and was upgrading the turbo. I guess he didn't have enough money to finish it and wound up having to sell it. I'm not trying to drive it yet, I just want to make sure it runs before we finish the deal up. It's missing some parts, but none that should keep it from starting. I don't know exactly whats the deal with it because he will only tell me so much, and I keep find stuff wrong with. I'm about to check the FPR in a little bit, and I'll post the results.

Ok, so... didn't really get to check it out today, i was busy all day. I clamped off the return line and it tried to start better. It actually started once, but i forgot whether or not it was in gear so i hurry and killed it, . Do you think the clutch would have anything to do with it? It'll turn over whether the pedal is in the up position or to the floor; i have a 94 Mustang, and it won't turn over at all if the clutch is not buried in the floor.

So its the FPR. I didn't have a gauge, so we clamped off the return line and just start cranking. And now, as long as the return line is clamped off, it starts and runs. Thanks for the help.
