Yesterday i went to start up my 96 eclipse gst and whenever it rains my alt belt will squeak for about 2 seconds and then turn off. Well i started up my car and it squeaked and then the belt came off. i turned off the car got out and put the belt back on tightened it up and what not. Then i was just about home and i turned the corner had the clutch in and it just stalled out. I went to restart it and it would crank over but wouldn't start. So then i went to roll start and it and i would drop the clutch and it would just sound like gears were grinding and it just was clicking but no start. so i get out look under the hood and my ac belt was now gone. The belt had a little fraying to it, but i don't understand why it would not start. It is as if i have no ignition. I'm kind of thinking maybe when my ac belt came off it hit something else and screwed it up i dont know. just tell me what you guys think. thanks

I had my a/c belt hit my timing belt on my new $5,000 engine and cause me to jump timing and bend all of my exhaust valves. Dont worry about me though, I am cruisin it around again :rocks:.

Check your mechanical timing(TIMING BELT/crank and cam alignment). Pull off your upper cover and rotate the engine till your timing light mark on the crank reads 0*. Your cams should be lined up properly or 180* off. If your mechanical timing is bad figure out the damage or pm me and I'll buy your car.

If it is good check to see if you have spark and fuel.

Is it your A/C belt or alternator belt that fell off? Also double check the alternator belt for tension. I have seen them before where they seemed tight and under load would slip with no noise. If the belt was or is slipping you drained the battery and that is why it died. If the belt came off the alternator while you were driving you drained the battery till the car died. The voltage only needs to be below about 9 or 10 volts and the car wont start. Check the battery voltage first and report back. Travis

i agree dead battery, check your timing though its a good idea even though the ac belt and timing belt should not conflict at all. the ac belt could have taken out the vacuum line on the fuel pressure reg causing very rich conditions, no start

Battery voltage is def a goog starting point. When my belt broke I still had 10.8n volts but no start. I charged the battery and replaced the battery and it started right up. Make sure you have the right amount of tension on the belt. As was said before, the belt can slip without making noise and the battery can slowly go dead.

Mine sure found its way through the timing cover, by rubbing a spot out in it due to the cover being warped. Not to say this happened to him. But I promise its possible, I have seen it 2 times now.

I don't think its a dead battery all my other electronics work. but i pulled spark pug wire from the coil pack and i had no spark. so then i tested my coil pack and the readings came up within the specifications. It's my ac belt thats off now. but my alt belt popped off first and i put that back on and on my drive home the ac looks like it split down the middle because i found it in the street and it was split. i've had people tell me that the ac belt could have hit the crank angle sensor and when it sends no signal i wont get a spark.
