This is some really funny $hit :). I hope that my Venom intake holds up OK, I do not have a standalone, so will not get that warning. Though, I do have the neon green paint... :)
You know its funny that you responded to this thread. I think it may have been SLIGHTLY cracked when we raced. I want a rematch

BTW, I have been using Walmart $20 tractor battery with pretty good success. It is the the 225 CCA model, only 16lbs!
I think the biggest problem with my battery is that I have too much draw on it with my stereo and a car alarm. The walmart racing battery has a TON more CCAs. I don’t remember off the top of my head but its pretty significant. But the hawker also ways about half what that walmart battery does. I already ordered all the stuff to put a real battery in the trunk. I just drive my car way too much to be dealing with this stuff.

I think the reason most people don't want to buy an already built car is because "its all about respect, and to some people thats more important" ;) ...that and the fact that the people that could AFFORD a 20k 13 year old DSM dont know anything about them...and who can you take a 9 second car to for an oil change?

On topic: That sucks about your manifold, but on the bright side, think about how much faster your car will be when its fixed! I agree you should rematch Leon. Make sure he doesnt put the wing back on though you may lose your edge :D

DAMN!! I want to see this rematch. BTW, Leon, good run at the SO. Fun watching you cream Dave all over the track. Anyway, I walked over top you, during the event. You were kinda working under the hood. Guess you thaught I was one of the other newbs there. You didnt even really say "whats up" to me. I was the realy big guy in the black mesh tank. Maybe you were just scared of me, like Dave is.... I get that alot.

Ops… Sorry about that, Dave. I was nursing a blown head gasket that day, so after EVERY race I had to open the radiator cap (not a fun thing to do on hot engine), dump contents of my overflow canister back into the cooling system and top it off with fresh water. I didn’t have a chance to talk to too many people in the process :).

But whenever I had minute, I was open to talking to anyone, newbie or not :). You must have just caught me at a bad time.

Well I got it welded at the local chassis place. It cost a whopping 15 bucks and they had it done within an hour of me dropping it off. I took the Venom sticker off and got it nice and shiny again with some mother’s metal polish. GSX4Life was kind enough to come up and reinstall it for me tonight. We got the car fired up and I took it around the street. I did one quick run and the gauge read around 33-34lbs so it looks like it may have been bleeding off a bit of boost at Ohio. Who knows? Anyway I just wanted to give everyone an update on how things turned out. Big thanks to GSX4life for helping me out.

Nice job Dave! Now take to the track and run some 10’s on it!!!

I just installed a new head with stock valves (oversized valves were hitting the tops of my pistons) and stock head gasket. I was expecting higher or same compression because of thinner head gasket and a head which has been through more decking operations. Well, I was wrong, my compression has gone form 190psi to 170psi! The only explanation is smaller valves fitment with-in the head (less volume occupied by the valves, thus large combustion chamber).

I am now excited about re-tuning my car with lower compression (more aggressive timing and more boost), no knock from valves/piston contact and no more blown head gasket.

I should be back at the track this Sat, so we can have a virtual rematch! :) Now, watch we will both run slower :)

Hehe! Dave, tell them about running the car on my old 215 tires. Dave's car, 215/55/16 tires, and 34psi is pretty scary. Escpecially considering, 2 pretty big guys up front, and like another 100lbs of crap in the trunk(tools, battery charger, misc. parts.) :D I smell 135mph traps wiht the M&Hs on.:thumb:

Just wanted to update everyone again. I was having some big issues idling and was down about 5lbs of boost from where I had set the controller a few days ago. I called HighPsi91 over for some diagnosis and he confirmed what I was worried about. The intake manifold cracked again. But this time the REAR weld cracked. Take a look at the pictures from the first time it cracked and it’s the same thing just on the back side.

I am so pissed off right now I can barely see straight. I called Venom Performance and spoke with an Alfred at Venom. I told him what my issue was and right off the bat he says whoa that is WAY too much boost So I yelled across my office “Are you ####ing kidding me?” “This is a race piece and it cant hold 30lbs?!?” “What’s the point of it then?” He told me that NONE of their race guys run more than 25lbs So I said He told me basically that I am exceeding what that manifold was designed for. I told him that can’t be right. He put me on hold for a little so he could talk to his manager. When he got back on he said that he confirmed it with his manager they were designed for more than 25lbs so no warranty no nothing. Just a resounding #### you. All I really wanted was to exchange my manifold for a one that was put together better.

Why don't you call up PTE and ask them how much boost the Venom cars run.

Dave,

I think it's time for a Magnus intake.

Not to be off-topic, but why is it that MOST of the big names in the current "sport compact" racing series are nothing more than fly-by-night companies that want nothing to do with actual performance if it doesn't involve their own cars?

Did Venom even exist 3-4 years ago? Not that I planned on it anyway, but I know now not to ever buy or reccomend a Venom product to anyone I know.

What a crock of shit. Get a Magnus and be done with it, Dave. I'm sure you can get a hook up ;)
