I just put a reconditoned head on my 1g talon. put all brand new gaskets in and arp head studs. i started it last night and we heard some valve noise. i pulled the oil cap off and i have no oil pressure going into the head. if the oil feed to the head is blocked can i bypass it by running a line from my oil pump to the side of the head. i dont really see why not because its going to the oil pressure reg. let me know if any one has tried this and if it works.

Poor oil flow to the head can be caused by excessive milling of the head surface. There is only one 'route' for the oil to get from the pan to the head. Instead of getting to all of the details in this reply, please reference this thread. It will provide the details of improving oil flow to the head and explain how the the oil gets into the head. Inspect your oil path and possablly correct your problem. May eliminate your having to install an external solution.

i didnt see your post quick enough. i made an external oil feed line and it works perfect. the only thing is you have to watch wich port you use on the head cause you still want it to go through the oil pressure reg. but i gave it a shot and it works. one day ill pull the head back off and find out why the oil path is blocked.

I assume you are feeding from one of the ports off the oil filter housing. Which one?

Where is the oil feeding to on the head?

Is the turbo still being fed from the head as well?

Are you not in the least bit concerned that whatever is plugging oil from getting to the head is building higher pressure in your lower internals or that it might work its way into the head and plug oil flow to the pressure regulator?

exactly, i'd try to identify and fix the problem rather than bypass. but looks like you've already routed the line to the head, hope it works out for you.

If there is no oil at all going to the head than the cams would lock up while idling. Even if the head was milled down far enough that the oil port was gone, you still have the space in the gasket which will allow for some oil flow. Do you see any oil coming out the hole on the rockers with the engine running and oil cap off?

Make sure to use the right port on the OFH, cause one of them is BEFORE the filter.

it hasnt raised my oil pressure at all. and yes the turbo is still being feed off the head. we did find out the head was milled too far. its only a temp fix untill i build another motor. been driving it around every day and it seems to work out fine. the only problem i found so far is now im feeding too much oil to the turbo but im going to find a way to reduce it a bit. not too worried tho because if it blows up ill just put the other motor in(rather not tho). thanks for your help guys. this is a very help full fourm.
