this is my opinion and what i have seen and done

well after putting in my 1.8 into a donor car...i hooked everything up(execpt for the MAF) connected the battery got in the car and it fired right up no mass air flow just a tube thats it!!!!!! i guess being that the ecu codes were erased because of not being in use or no juice to it it restarted itself and ran at what the engine was tell it to do is this possible??or just a freak accident???? because if i can run without the MAF then f*#k it i am gonna do it

Put it back on...

The ecu can try and "guess" about sensor readings based on all the other engine's sensors if a certain sensor dies out to try and provide minimum functinality so your not stuck on the side of the road. If the car doesn't know for sure how much air its getting its going to err on the side of rich to save the engine from people who remove things thier not supposed to... dont be one of those people :|

not tryin tobe one of those people just it surprised me by running with it off
i mean i definetly put it back on it was weird i mean cause it would never run with out it b4

When i got my first car which was a Laser... I tried to run with out a MAF and it ran for a while and then u will notice that it will run rich and blow a lot of smoke and then it will finally shut of. So i def. put it back on.

Yea mines off and its running rich as #### and ruff as hell when its cold. I put it back on and its not working right. I think I killed it. Gonna hit the junk yard up and try for it again. Dont loose the screws and all that crap. I'll tell you by the mistakes I made. Put it back on like everyone said. I'll tell you first hand. I'm getting shit gas mileage while gas is at 2.15 a gallon. PUT IT ON!
