Ok so I got a 98 GST, evo3 16g turbo, megan racing 02 housing, 3" custom cat back exhaust, intake, greddy type-rs BOV, EGR block off plate and emission lines removed...so when i first start my car for the first time such as in the morning, my car doesnt go into the normal warm up stage as every other car ive owned has done...what i mean by this is that usually when i start my other cars, the idle when its cold will go up to around 2000 or so until the car is warmed up and than come down to its normal operating idle...but with my 98 GST, when i start the car whether its cold or already warmed up, the idle is now always at my normal 900-1000...what causes this "warm up mode" to not happen? BTW this has been this way since i got the car and it was stock with nothing at all done to it...thanks guys

Well I have been having problems with a fluctuating idle that led me to believe it was my ISC so the problems may b connected to the ISC but I thought there was a sensor that contained a ball of wax or something that would keep the idle higher when the car was cold but once it warmed up the wax would melt amd cause the sensor to lower the idle...i can't remember the name of the sensor...anyone know what I'm talking about or am I just talking out of my @$$ again? Lol:aha:

no not a sensor covered in wax...it was a sealed sensor and inside of it there was something like a ball of wax or a spring and when the car would be cold the wax would be solid or the spring would have tension on it which caused the idle to be higher and once the car warmed up the wax would melt or the spring would lose its tension which caused the sensor to lower the idle....anyone at all know what im talking about?? please

how cold is cold in the morning?
i live in canada and mine only idles slightly higher in the morning.

change your thermostat,
change your coolant
then tell me what you find.

Both the thermostat and coolant were replaced about a month ago so i kno those are fine...i know for a fact that there is such a sensor that i'm talking about because i remember seeing a diagram and a write up explaining exactly how it worked but now i cant seem to find it again....anyone at all know what im talking about?

Dang man why are you complaining? I wish my car idled the same at any temp... =( i hate it burning all my gas to warm up at 2k blaaaaaaaah

Please tell me what sensor is bad to i can break it then melt it in the oven ;)

Hehe, mine doesn't do the "warm up" sequence either. It used to, but then my idle would fluctuate and wouldn't go down below 1100. I turned it down to 850-ish and now it pretty much stays there all day.

Yeah, I wish my engine didn't idle that high on start up. Does it cold or hot. Even though it does come back down within a few seconds. Not good for any engine to do that.

Thermostats have a setup similar to what the OP is describing. As for a idle control valve, I can't think of one off hand that does that.

My car is the same way, ISC block off plate and EGR block off plate. Doesn't cause me any problems most of the time I just start it up make some coffee than go off to where ever I am going. I like the no high idle in the morning. But than again my DD doesn't idle high either on warm up
