okay so i just bought my second eclipse gst its a 97. The guy who had it before me just had the engine rebuilt with all new stock parts and also put a new stock bov on it, all parts on the car are stock so no after market parts, i searched the forums and found similar but diffirent fourms in which most had aftermarket parts and i do not. So i was wondering what could be causing it to not have no bov sound? I check the turbo and it has no shaft play. The car did sit for a while because the tags are out and he just didnt need it so he didnt get it inspected. He told me the engine rebuild has 2000 miles on it just wondering what could be causing this nightmare, i only paid 1500 for the car so it was a great deal i couldnt pass up, everything else on the car looks great and runs good, If some one could help me out that would be awesome!:rocks:

oh i forgot to metion the spark plugs wires were cut or something so he taped and i guess soldered them back? not sure havent took the tape off but could this be causing the problem? or what could it be

Are you building any boost? Are you sure it's not firing? If its a stock plastic bov it will just make a quick squeak noise. Is there a vacuum hose plugged in to the top of the bov?

im gonna do a boost leak test tomorrow but it doesnt make any sound at all like my other eclipse does, my first eclipse is stock too

This is a nightmare, not hearing the sound? Isn't that a little dramatic? LOL

Do you know if you're building boost via an aftermarket gauge? As mentioned, recirculated BOVs won't make much of a sound typically. Maybe a bit of a "foosh", but it will be very quiet especially with stock intake piping.

If you don't have a boost gauge, get one. Then you'll see if you're building any boost at all. Don't vent the BOV to atmosphere just to hear the sound, you'll end up with an engine that runs poorly.

The spark plug wires, while they have no bearing on your "nightmare", should be replaced as soon as possible. You want proper kit on there, and some guy's solder hackjob can cause you so many problems.

Soldering plug wires back together? That's a new one on me.

As for your "no sound" bov, just as others have already stated, stock 2g plastic bov really doesn't produce a pronounced sound. With an intake, you might be able to hear something, but even then it would be minimal; assuming stock boost.

I know it's "cool" to hear the bov but as long as your building boost and your car is running, that should be only thing that matters. :thumb:

Can do nothing to my car till saturday when i have time but ill update what i get out of it on here.

Thanks for all the inputs, but its just weird to me my other stock eclipse makes a louder sound when relasing from the bov?

You have a major leak somewhere. driving close to a side walk (carefully) you should hear the sound bounce back (pppsshhh) if not. Leak is your problem.
My bov's haven't made a sound for god know's so long. 2 type S (legit ones) and no type s sound.
When I was all stock on 12 psi's I heard the noise also.

I couldn't hear my bov at all with the stock ic piping, bov, and recirculated into the stock rubber snorkel. I didn't think much of it because it was all stock and what not, but it turned out to be a massive boost leak in the intercooler inlet because it was dented in from the previous owner bottoming out. BLT should answer a lot of questions!

this is going to sound dumb but i found out what it was.
On my first eclipse I have an aftermarket k&n air filter and on the new one it was stock so I put a new filter on it (aftermarket) and it made a big diffrence! now its like my other car
