My cars been spitting and sputtering since I bought it. To day I took off the covers to check timing and the balance shaft belt was in shreds crammed next to the crank pully! The timing belt was replaced a short while befor i bought it but the balance belt was not. SHOULD I LEAVE THE BALANCE SHAFT BELT OFF? Ive been driving the car like this for over a month.

In the last month you've come to understand what myself and others have. You can run with the B Belt off with pretty much no negative side effects. You can go on like that forever if you wish.

I was surprised that there wasent any more carnage under the timing cover which held the balance shaft belt against all the pullys which tore it to shreds

You're running an out-of-time engine, with incredible luck to not have gone far enough to bend valves. Do not drive any more until you've replaced your timing belt. Do the water pump at the same time.

After removing the timing belt I found that the crank was off almost 5 teeth counterclockwise and the head was off by 3 teeth on the exhust. The car runs like an animal now boosting god knows what because the wastegate arm is siezed. I dont take the car past 3000rpms because the tires break loose(FWD) But its alot better than before. Without the balance shaft belt in place there is a bit more vibration than my previous DSM but not anything that will skip CDs. Thanks :thumb:

I was told by a few reputable sources that if you run your car w/ out the b belt you would lose oil pressure hence the reason when building my buddies motor and the belt broke and spit out the timing cover, we tore the motor back apart to put in an eliminator kit. Am i wrong cause if so ima be kinda pissed??

accually when you pull the bs's and put block off bearings in it will raise your oil pressure. but i was thinking today.. if one were to leave the bs in there with no belts. would it increase or effect your oil pressure?

Your oil pressure will remain the same if you just cut the belt and leave the shaft in. I watched, and infact noticed no difference in oil pressure when I stopped running the B-belt on my laser. If you think about it the only difference is that the shaft isn't rotating.

When driving my stock oil pressure needle sits about 2/3 to 3/4 between the two "good" marks.

If you run no BS belt just keep an eye on it. While from experiece, I personally noticed nothing bad when it comes to oil pressure. Infact many others have removed rear BS and left the front one in as is with no belt.

If you have the engine out though do yourself a favor and do the full BS elimination.

my issue is that at idle after proper warm up my oil pressure gauge (stock) is touching the bottom line which means very very low pressure. now i know i have a leak in the return but that wouldnt effect it as much.. i guess i could swap a new pump in.
