about a week a go i was driving to school one morning and i went to get up to speed and it accelerated OK until about 30 mph, then it fell on its face. It felt like i hit the brakes it was horrible. My car is a gigantic turd in the mornings, but it only does it in the morning when its cold. My consern is its supposed to be like 27* outside thursday for a high, and its only going to get worse.

My Question is what could be wrong with my car, It wont accelerate, but it only does it when its cold. and it acts like nothing ever happend when it gets above 50.

Any help you guys could give would be great Thanks in advance. Robert

How many miles on it? Did you ever check your ECU and see if the cap's are leaking all over it? This is kinda how my car felt in the mornings, if the ECU is on its way out the car will sometimes run only on 2 cylinders... which will deff make it feel like its a big POS.
So if you haven't check the ECU, if you have a good one, check the plugs and wires maybe, at idle when first started you can pull a plug wire while its running and see if the motor misses, if nothing changes when you pull a wire, you know something is wrong. Just spitting out ideas..

Sounds like fuel cut. How much boost are you running? Im only running about 13psi and when its real cold outside at about 6200rpm it cuts out. Only when its cold. I think its fuel cut because the air is more dense when its cold.

no my car is stock, it has like 114,000 miles and has a hacked air can. boost is stock. but it will go up after christmas, to about 15 psi. Its not fuel cut because it wont rev past 3k. only in the morning will this happen

I would do a boost leak test. I have had leaks that were more apparent while driving when it is cold. Since your car is basically stock a leak seems unlikely, but I would rule it out as a potential cause if I were you.

Yeh of course Why? I know you can crack your block if its really cold and you rev it but I always let it warm up befor i take it out of the driveway. Why would a boost leak be more noticable when its cold.

Oh i forgot to tell you that when the turbo spools up and it is at full boost ( acording to stock gauge) and its incredibly loud, only it wont pick up speed or power. I'm very conserned because its supposed to get below freezing in two days, I need to fix it yesterday guys. Thanks

Cold air = denser air. A boost leak in a cold temp would leak out more air than in a warm
temp.

The intake pipes shrink when its cold so the cracks would be smaller than if its hot out side. I don't know i'm just frustraded because it needs to be fixed.

What is your temp guage reading when you take off? Does it read cold all the time? Could be a faulty coolant temp sensor.

There is a hole and on both sides are rubber, the rubber will become smaller as it gets colder. It shrinks on both sides of the crack/hole therefore leaving a bigger hole. As it heats up the leaks become smaller since the material around it is expanding and filling in any space that was empty.

Why not just do a boost leak test. Then there won't be any guessing if you have a boost leak or not.

It does read pretty cold all the time. So wouldn't that mean that the computer thinks its cold and dumps fuel into the engine because it thinks its still warming up? How much is a coolent temp sensor? Thanks guys I'll do a leak test this weekend.

Correct. A coolant temp sensor is around $25, and probally 10-15 mins installing. Its located on your coolant neck on the left side of the motor. Probally should replace the thermostat while you are right there. Those are around $8-10 and around $3 for the gasket.

If your car can't get above 3k rpms, then you may have a seized turbo. This is what happened to me, it was like I "hit a wall." Check by pulling off your intake pipe and spinning the turbo wheel by hand. It should easily spin freely and the shaft should not move about.

I pulled off the hose that goes from the intercooler to the bov and the throttle body, and there was oil in it. Also oil is leaking from the tube that goes from the turbo to the oil pan. whats the oil in the intake piping mean?

Oil in the intake tract usually indicates a blown turbo/turbo seals. To really check, take off the lower intercooler hose, the one from the compressor outlet to the SMIC. If there's a lot of oil in there, your turbo is gone. To be absolutely sure, check your turbo for shaft play, as ken06 suggested. If there's ANY in and out shaft play, or any noticeable side to side or up and down shaft play, your bearings and/or seals may be shot. If you're talking about a light film of oil coating the intercooler pipes, that may be normal buildup from the valve cover breather hose. When a turbo goes, it usually drops about a quart or so into the LICP and SMIC.

Fix your oil return line.

And, as mentioned before, do a boost leak test. Seriously. Don't just "think" it doesn't have any leaks. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

Good luck.

Sorry i did not respond earlier. should i get another 14G or upgrade to a 16G, How hard is that. Could I get one from a salvage yard, what would i get it from?

A 14b and a 16g are virtually identical on the outside and install the exact same way. Finding a 16g in a junkyard would be rare. A 14b on the other hand, can be found on any turbo 1g with a manual transmission.

Just because your temp gauge says your car is warm doesnt mean it is. Thats your water temp gauge. Oil usually takes longer I thought. Accelerating on a car that isnt totally up to temp feels horrible.

I've the same problem.

Car accelerates horrible but only when it's very cold (of course I'm not reving it)
It feels like it has 50HP...
Changed wires to Accels, Denso plugs.. but haven't done a boost leak test. Hope this last will help.
