Figured I would post this to maybe help someone that had this problem.

I aquired a laser AWD with a bad trans. I changed the trans with a used one i had laying around. After install I took it for a ride and realized that I didnt have reverse or 5th. So I got a little upset thinking that i needed another trans.

Started troubleshooting.
Checked the linkage on the Tranny. Everything looked OK. On a transmission when you wiggle your shifter side to side the linkage on the trans moves up and down. When i brought my shifter all the way to the right (5th,Rev). The Linkage on the transmission wouldnt go up all the way. If i used my hands and moved the linkage, reverse would go in. I started looking over a tranny i had laying on the ground and seem there is a little plastic spacer thingy. That spacer is used to push the linkage up. So i did a little switch. Turns out that little plastic block was wore down. And now I have 5th and reverse again.

Will have pictures up later tonight

So is it working or not, some guy said it isn't?

I saw a 1.8 for sale really cheap, same problem. Was thinking of picking it up as a commuter, to save on gas and wear and tear on the AWD.

OLD MITSU TECH: Is this a "works or not" part, or can your 5th/reverse be a little harder with the spacer a little deteriorated?

WASTE: Please post a pic or 2 soon, greatly appreciated :)

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but does anyone have any pics of this spacer or anything? I just put a brand new shep tranny in a car for a friend and it has no reverse or 5th, just feels like the cables are unhooked when you try to go to those gears. Just need to see where the spacer goes, maybe I can make one.

I took off the shifter cables and mine still didn't work shifting it by hand on the tranny. This is on a brand new shep tranny too, car has not even moved! My guess is shift fork?
