no 2nd. all other gears ok. ideas?

ive had nothing but problems since jan 2nd.
head gasket - 2nd jan
isc - right after fixing the head gasket
injector, and running rough (still going on) - replaced some hoses and ic couplings.
brakes, fixed yesterday - line wore through, someone put the wrong calliper on, $84 for a reman
and now, i have no 2nd gear at all.

ill go to put it in second and there is nothing, it just grinds if i try to push it. it goes into the gate like it should be going into second, but there is nothing there, and lettingthe clutch out, which holding the shifter in 2nd (well the place for 2nd) just makes it grind.

i think the input shaft is a little loose as the shifter moves when you give it gas in gear.
but i wouldn't have thought that would just all of a sudden make me lose a gear. i drove it last night, without an problems. it ran a little rough..which i expected. but shifted ok.
then today....2nd gear gone. just replaced the fluid 6 months ago, everything looked ok. all the other gears are fine. so i guess the 2nd gear cogs took a crap... thats my guess.
suggestions anyone?
 
That is what im thinking, because it will (I have carefully discovered) go into gear as long as the car is moving forward and your shifting from 1st, or if downshifting, rev the engine to about 3k, then put it in second.
so im going with the syncronizer too.

Just check the shifter linkage before you go and rip your tranny out for a rebuild. The way that it sounds you probably are due for a rebuild but we accidentally left a socket extention in my buddies engine bay one time and it wouldn't let him go into one of his gears (can't remember exactly which one). Just check them to make sure that there is nothing in the way and if that doesn't fix the problem then I agree with bojanglesracing that you probably need to rebuild the tranny. Good luck either way.
 
So are you saying that your just having trouble getting into gear, aka grinding. Or you can get the shifter into the 2nd position completly and when you let the clutch out there is just nothing there, or grinding. If your just having trouble getting in= synchro,, if you just have no 2nd or a grind I would say linkages or something bad internaly.
