Just picked up a gvr4.. dude said linkage was binding and tranny was good..

but I have tried workign on the linkage and it just won't go into these gears...

I even tried to move the linkage by hand at tranny.. i can put the arm into 2nd 4th rev by hand, but it won't budge when going into 1st 3rd or 5th... that tells me its not the cables correct.?

any advice.

I lost 5th and reverse ones but it turned out to be shifter bushings gone bad, hope this helps

Check to make sure your shifter and cables match the trans. 1990 shifter/cables for a 1990 and 1991 up for all other 1G's. You may have a 1990 trans in the car or 1990 cables on a 1991 trans.

Your problem is most likely related to the bracket on tranny, where shifter cables are attached. Each one of them is hold by clip in place. Most likely clip fell and now the cable is loose. I am almost 95% sure. If it is that, Pep boys sell these clips. They are little tinier, but just secure it on top with zip tie and should be fine.

clips are there.. its possibility the cables are wrong.. or tranny wrong...

however, if i can't move arm by hand then i wasa thinking it was something internal.

Adjust the cables on the tranny and see the shifter assembly inside the car, make sure everything is connected.

I think I have found the issue..

after looking at another vr4 I think the bracket I have on my car is a 90 bracket.

looking at it its kind of S shaped... on the vr4 I was checking out, the S shape isnt' as prounounced.

I dont know, but I put on the 91+ smaller bracket and all the gears work !! YAY..

now I have 50th other things to work on.
