charlottetown,
I was wondering this today. Do turbobacks as one of the first couple mods to a dsm actually make that much of a power difference? People always claim that their car feels so much faster etc but honda guys that make maybe .75 more hp say the same thing, if you know what i mean.

Does anyone have any track time improvements or dyno numbers that show what can really be expected? I am just hoping for a faster spool and and a nice sound, if I pick up a couple tenths so much the better.

The gains are more appreciable after putting a higher flow exhaust on a turbo car than a N/A (i.e. a Honda). That's something to consider...

I think the reason honda guys say there car is so much faster is because they are looking for it to be, and it sounds faster. I think if the two cars looked the same and sounded the same you really would not know the difference. Just like a harley with or without loud pipes, the louder it is the faster its going right?? atleast thats what the cops think hehe.

it will give you better spool ,your car is turbocharged, you dont need exhaust back pressure.go for it!

Im putting one on regardless anyways. I just wanted to know if anyone had ever done any real comparisons of stock and non stock before.

The only real difference I noticed on a t-25 with stock boost and stock motor was the sound. With my current set-up, I put in a silencer that reduced my exhaust to 2" in the back in an effort to quiet things down; I lost about 10-15lb/min of WOT airflow and my car felt like a dog. Needless to say I ditched it right away.

If you are going to be running a modified car, it will make a huge difference down the line. If you are keeping your car stock and just want a better sounding exhaust, you won't be impressed with the power gains.

i take its going to be an his first step in modding,ie intake/exhaust etc..

if all he wants is sond, hell be happy with a catback system.

Anything that opens up the inlet and outlet of a turbo motor is going to be an improvement. As with any car, the more you do the better it will perform. However, I don't know anyone that has dyno'd their car before and after an exhaust upgrade.

Just a turbo back will definitely help you out, but to really get the full effect you need.....

New turbo
New fuel system
Tuning/logging method
New intake system...hard pipes, intercooler...
blah, blah, blah....

You've got to start somewhere, 4" cone filter and at least a cat-back will get you started down the road of more expenses than you thought possible, plenty of "Oh sh!t", busted knuckles, and a whole hell of a lot of fun.

If you read my profile I already have a uicp,BOV, hard intake, filter, free mods and an mbc, running around 15lbs. This isint my first step.

I had a GST before.
I had the same exact profile as you without the mbc.
I put my Megan Racing Downpipe on and I gained a 1psi of boost.
So, from 12 to 13psi.
Then I put on my K-Teller exhaust kit, and I gained another psi of boost.
So now I'm at 14psi just from doing exhaust mods.
Now with you being that you are running 15psi, I'd bet you're not going to feel that much of an increase due to your mbc set at 15psi.
You'll get a much better exhaust tone, and faster spool, but you already know that with a T25.

Slow down fella....

I wasn't saying this is your first steps. I was trying to get you to realize that modding a car is a "package deal". You can actually put several pieces on and not really feel sh!t until the "next" piece goes on that ties it all together.

If you just added an exhaust it might net you XXhp, but if other mods were in place before...you would get XX + Xhp. It's hard to say what you will get out of an exhaust upgrade unless you compare identical cars/mods, then you get into "state of tune" issues that will also make a difference.

It really blows me away how people will think "that if I add this part I will gain XXhp." There are just too many factors involved in an engine to make such a blanket statement as that.:beatentodeath:
