HI! I enjoy the detail of the site and i hope to become a regular on here! I recently bought a 95 talon ESI from a friend. it runs GREAT! i only need to replace the belts and some other very minor exterior eyesores.

Recently ive been having trouble with the car. about 2 months ago i saw a code flash, and upon getting a diagnostic i found it to be a O2 sensor code. it went away after a while and i had no problems until recently.

My battery died because my sister left the lights on after checking for something she left in the car.

after i jumped the car i got a check engine light code. I went to get it checked and the machine at autozone would not read it.

after the failed diagnostic, i noticed that my car wouldnt start, no turn over or anything. No sound at all. i was getting power however.

I decided to clutch start it by having some guys help push and it ran fine afterwards.... until i had to start it again.

i read the codes when the check engine light came on i dont know the code sequence exactly, but after i searched this site found that it seems to all be related to air sensors. i may be reading them wrong but can anyone help shed light on this subject?

i read the code as 1...2...2...5...5...5... i know 55 means end of signal but would these codes really cause the car not to start?

any info would be greatly appreciated!

CHEERS! (Sorry for the long explanation)

When you first got the code read, was it from OBDII or the ole morse code style?
If it was obd do you remember what the code was? (There is quite a few o2 code errors, which one could help narrow it down)

Sounds like it's a cat or o2 sensor going bad that could be causing the starting problem. On many of the imports, the car won't start if it's getting a bad o2 reading(learned this the hard way when I deleted the cat on my spec v). Also try to get an exact code that will further help determine what is wrong

Edit: Hopefully this link will help out some, http://www.troublecodes.net/mitsu/

thanx! it was morse code. the guy at autozone plugged the reader into my obdII port but it wouldnt read, he said i may have an electrical issue (which i found odd bc car was running fine no electrical problems other than my battery dying the day before)

after he unplugged the reader the car wouldnt start.

oh BTW i saw the pattern (i didnt realize the pause intervals were the same as toyotas) it read a 12 and 25

according to the code key i used from the search feature you guys have (which is awesome and pretty specific:thumb:)

its a 12-airflow sensor

25-barometric pressure sensor.

i have a general idea what these do, but would it cause the car not to start? as i said earlier, if i clutch start the car, it runs fine:confused: it dosent even idle weird (but is SLIGHTLY sluggish)

Yes, those would cause the car not to start, or to run like shit.

But if you can pop start it and the car will run fine then I would think you have an issue with your battery being a piece of shit.

Thanks, i checked the battery, it came out fine though, but i can understand why u would say that due to it being drained earlier.

You didn't check the site previously posted well enough. You have code #25, IAC motor circuit. Scroll down in the "troublecodes.com" link to where it says "MPFI 95-99 Eclipse (Non-Turbo) Check Engine/Light Scan Tool or just check this site. 2GNT.com - PCM_Error_Codes

Here's someone else who had the same the same code.

wow, i feel like an ass... thanks man!! I will check my IAC, Im sure my buddy stevie over at Miller import parts has an extra laying around:thumb: however, that gentleman in the link that threw the same code had a turbo edition. Mine is an N/A. Does this not make a difference?

Check it again. He clearly states in the first post the car in question is a '95 RS. :thumb:

Have you checked everything else, like the terminals and cables?

I only keep asking because if you are having issues with sensors then they would keep your car from starting even when you pop start, not just when you try with the key. That makes me think that you may have another problem.

can u say FAIL? :ohdamn: LOL. im still new to the DSM world, i had no idea exactly what an RS was, im still learning the DSM chassis codes, I Get them mixed up like i confuse the honda guys EK EG etc.

(im a 6gc.net guy, also have a 94 celica w/ 3sgte swap)

i will be checking my terminals and cables in a bit, will let y'all know results! thanx!

EDIT: checked terminals and cables, saw no abnormalities (other than the negative being a LITTLE loose, but im sure it was like that before i got the diagnostic run. i clutch started the car noticed that the check engine light did not come on after i decided to jack it up and mess with the cat. converter a little bit. i still had to clutch start the car however :( its GOTTA be something simple next i will try cleaning/ replacing the O2 sensor

Really dude?

How the hell is cleaning/replacing your o2 sensor going to do shit to make your car start with the key, when it already will start fine when you pop start it?

When you crank the car using the key does it even turn over? Or does it just crank and crank?
