Newb In Need Of Guidence.

HELP!!
I have just recently bought a 91 Mitsu eclipse Gs-t. I formally had a N/a Toyota MR2 and i have no idea what to do or where to start. I hear that rebuilding the engine is good, and would probably be good for my gst that has 162,000. How much does that cost?
Or if it was kept up well, which this one was, how should i start to increase horsepower, turning ability, etc.? I would say i have a 1200 dollar limit to start on with this car. Please anyone give me a hand on what to do with this car.

Check Timing Belt and Assecory Belts, Change if needed
Do a Compression check, if your #'s are good, there is no need to rebuild right now
Clean Throttle Body
Check for Boost leaks
Replace Fuel Filter

Pretty much do a thorough tune up on it. Plugs wires belts etc.... Make sure it doesn't have any problems before you start modding.

ok the tune up im getting. whats a good sugestion to start modding with? i checked that link and its got so good stuff but im wondering if there are any different aproaches.

You can go out of order, but that's a time proven method.
