ok so my windshield is all cracked up to heck so i read a fourm the other day about someone who put lightweight material in there instead of glass. i wanted to know if it would be cheaper than new glass, which material is better, how much lighter than glass, and is it street legal

Trust me if this is your daily driver you want to use the glass. The front windshield of a car is made with a special kind of glass that uses lamination to hold it together if it breaks. It is also a structural part of the car. If you were to crash, I would hate to see the results with a plastic window.

Actually speedglass is alot stronger/shatterproof. Its also expensive, a lot of work to install, and illegal. Stick to glass unless its a race car and the rules permit it.

see if your insurance will cover it I know here in fl if our front windshields crack the insurance co. replaces them for free.:thumb:

Like everyone else said, stick to glass as the plastic windows are not meant for the street and will scratch easily after a few months of you using your wipers.

So let me get this straight. Just like a harness, which is alot safer than a regular seat belt, is illegal. This aswell, is STRONGER than glass, doesn't shatter as easy as glass, IS SAVER, AND IS ILLEGAL? LOL.

Yeah, it's "saver".

Safety isn't about efficiency nor effectiveness. It's about payoffs. Orren Hatch made Morthon-Thiokol rich by getting airbags mandated. If you're strapped-in, even with a puny little 3-point, you'll never touch the bag. Funny how they don't use them in racecars. Almost as funny as not having an anti-submarine strap in a street car.

Typo, durr hurrrr

.. If it's safer, it will be more effective.

I say, take out airbags, allow harness and upgraded glass legal. If someone want's to get into a crash without using their god damn seat belt because they're too lazy to put it on, let them get killed. It'll only sort out the population.
