are there any companies that make new trannies for 2g gsx? all i can find is rebuilds

Nope. Rebuilt is just as good. Sometime's better if you go all out and get a Shep, TRE or Dogbox transmission. For what people would charge for a rnew one anyways it is worth it to have someone rebuild it. I take it you have an automatic?

No 5 spd, its starting to make a weird whine when in low gears. going to change tranny fluid and if that dont work i have to start saving for rebuild. what does an average rebuild cost? and what does the top of the line shep cost, ball park figure works, like 1000-2000???

First, 95bLaCkGsTuRbO is correct by saying that theres no reason to buy a new tranny.. you may be able to get one from a dealer, but I don't even want to know what kind of price tag they'd put on it.

about 1k for a standard rebuild, about 2400$ for a full race build

TRE prices are a bit higher, however this is the price for a rebuilt trans, without you having to send yours back to them. they're basic rebuilds are about 1750, and a "full race" is about 2850. If you decide to send yours back, they give you 300$

Do your own research, and use the search button before you ask stupid questions. not to mention figure out whats wrong with the part before buying a new one.

I had my 2g rebuilt by Shep as a stock over the counter rebuild for about $735. You won't need anything fancy unless you are running in the high 10's. 2g transmission's are pretty bulletproof already.

I had the same problem with the grinding noise starting with the second gear...sounded worst the more I drove it. I had to get the transmission rebuit because of bad bearings, paid about 1500 with a new clutch...

Check the fluid in your Transfer case.

o man that is not good, what was the price w/ no clutch? did your tranny just stop working? or did you rebuild it before it messed up more?

The tranny still was working but it was making loud noises on all gears, like the sound of a honda reversing, everytime I released the accerator. As fas the clutch, I took it to the shop and they showed me how worn out the pressure plate was and oddly enough it had South Africa WTF written on it...so basically there was no extra charge for installation to the new clutch since the motor was already out.

bulletproof is definetly the last word i would use to describe a dsm tranny. they are perhaps the worst.
