I just finished up installing a JDM trans in my 90 AWD talon after the one I have "rebuilt" self destructed. (With the other trans everything shifted fine ever gear was where it should have been)
Now with this new trans the neutral is way off. Neutral is basicially where 4th gear is and you can not get it to shift into 2nd, 4th, reverse at all (cars off, so i dont screw up the trans)... I tried to adjust the cables but there is not enough adjustments available to make neutral go where it should be and its still tilted back a good bit. After installing uncountable trans I have never seen this before, if it werent hitting 1-3-5 then id say the cables are stretched out but its like they are too long!? Any ideas? I was thinking of making the adjustable part of the cables longer but did not want to do anything until I have more opinions on this.
Thanks

The cables, cable mount at tranny and shifter are differant on the 90 model. Chances are, you got a 91- jdm tranny so for the shift to be normal, you need to swap the associated parts. First, I would swap the cable mount on the tranny and see what happens. If it doesnt work out, you will need to swap cables and shifter also.

I just switched the cable brackets and it solved the neutral problem. Now I think the cable for 1 3 and 5 is stretched because it doesn't seem to go into those gears all the way whereas 2 4 and R are fine. The cable is adjusted to where it is as small as it goes but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
