Let me start out by introducing myself and tell you about my car...My name is J.D., and I drive a 1990 Eclipse GST...I bought it back in November for $500...As far as cosmetics go, its pretty rough around the edges...The paint is faded, the door was messed up, and now it hits the fender when you open it...Not that big of a deal seeing as how I was given a fender and door with the purchase of the car...On the inside, the seats are a little faded and the backhalf is gutted...Also not the big of a deal because I have some mint leather front seats out of a 93 that aer going to be purchased fairly cheap...Now to get under the hood....It blew a headgasket and was replaced by the previous owner in the form of a cometic h/g and arp headstuds...the balance shafts were removed as well...the timing belt was recently changed as well as other routine maintence was done...The car came with a few bolt ons as well such as K&N w/ hard intake pipe, ported 2nd gen manifold, hks external wastegate w/ external dump tube, 2.5" o2 sensor housing, 3 inch downpipe and an Apexi SAFCII...Not too much but a good place to start...When I aquired the car, the clutch was slipping, so the first thing I did was buy an ACT 2600 and OEM throwout bearing which is awaiting install...All in all not a bad purchase for $500...Now to get to my questions...Now dont get me wrong, I know how forums work and the first thing I did was search, but i couldn't come up with any solid answers...

1. The first thing I'm worried about is the strength of the transmissions in the FWD...My brother was in the fwd SR20 camp and they are known to have weak transmissions...Now this car will be seeing 300 maybe 350whp tops...Should I have anything to worry about assuming I dont beat on the trans? The guy I bought it from (pretty knowledgable DSM guy) said I shouldnt have any problems but its better to be safe than sorry

2. While teh clutch is out I figure why not replace the flywheel...I seemes to notice alot of people go with a Fidanza or some other flywheel, but not too many people use the ACT flwheel...is there any reason for this? Why I ask is because I can get an XACT flywheel for about $100 less than any other flywheel...are there known problems with these flywheel?

3. I have a somewhat large sum of money coming my way and with no bills to pay I'm planning on spending it on my car...I want to get the fuel system all upgraded and running well before I put on a bigger turbo (probably gonna be an evo3 16g)...Im pretty familiar with the routes that can be taken here, but I want some suggestions...I would like to stick with the SAFC...I know this wont net me the most power, but it would just be alot easier to stick with it...What I'm getting at is, what would be the best injector and MAF combo to support 300-350whp? Or is that asking too much of the AFC?

That pretty much sums it up...Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
J.D.

1. You should be fine with making 300-350 whp through the stock turbo trans. People have put down way more power and theirs are fine.

2. The only reason i can think of why people choose Fidanza over the ACT xact is that the ACT is a newer flywheel. The Fidanza has been out for a while now and has been proven.

3. If you are going to stick with the AFC dont go any larger than 680cc injectors, its hard to tune anything bigger with the AFC. You can run 550's with the Evo III turbo, but i sugguest the larger 680's. Get yourself a Fuel Pressure Regulator that will lower fuel pressure along with raising it in a 1:1 fasion. Good example is a Aeromotive Part # 13109. Also i would sugguest a Walbro 255 fuel pump. You can also get away with running a Walbro 190 fuel pump without the Fuel Pressure Regulator. I just like having a FPR on my car with the bigger fuel pump to have a safty margin.

With all that said, if you have a laptop handy, i would highly sugguest DSMLink, but you would need to have a Eprom Computer also.

Hope this helps for you. BTW Welcome and enjoy your stay.

Yeah, I've seen really good ratings with the ACT flywheels. As for your transmission, you're good if your just goin for like a stage 1 setup. Just make sure all your fluids and everything are filled. For more tips on going stage 1, go to the DSMtuners stage 1 tech guide.

Have a good one.

Thanks for the quick replies...Any suggestions on simple MAFS upgrades? I was thinking a GM maf with translator but used strictly for changing the signal and not really for tuning, which is where the afc would come in...is this common or even feasible? would very much like to keep it as simple as possible because tuning isnt exactly my strongest point although I am quite familiar with teh afc as is my brother

Thanks in advance
J.D.

Since you are pulling your trans out you might want to think about traction too and look into an lsd they sell the sbr tranny lsd at slowboyracing.com i hvae heard they really help you get some grip.

Your 1st gen MAF will be fine for 300 hp but if you wanna make more power I would jump into a 2nd gen MAF if anything. The GM MAF-T combo is nice, you you said you or your brother dont know it. You know the AFC so just use that.

I know its been a few days but let me say once again thanks for the replies...Well that sum of money that I said I had coming is now here so I'm looking to purchase a few things...Let me know what you think

1. 580cc injectors...I notice alot of people either go with 550s or 650s but not really 580s...I want a little more than 550cc, just to be safe, but I dont like the idea of tuning 650s with an AFC...Suggestions/ideas?

2. Walbro 255 pump...seems pretty straight forward here

3. AFPR...as someone mentioned earlier Aeromotive is a quality and recommended unit but any other suggestions?

For my final question...with the above mentioned along with the SAFCII would it be safe to take the stock 14b to say 18-20 psi?
