Few questions new to the dsm gameee

Hey whats up everyone i just recently bought a 93 talon es fwd got a few things done to it. but im having a few problems and before i add anymore i want it to be running good. My first problem is tranny grinds into 2nd and 3rd gear. The wierd thing is it dont grind all the time if im easy with the gas and shift nice it will go in pretty smooth but if i get on the pedal it will like grind/click when going in my question is it the syncrho or could it be no tranny fluid? also how do i check if there is any fluid and if i should replace the fluid and what kind do i get never done anything with tranny's. Next question is my interior lights and headlights blink. I got my alternator checked today and battery everything is good to go i do have a very big system but its wierd ### if im just rolling slowly the car like shakes with the flickering if you get what im saying what can that be? Sorry for all the newb questions but im trying to get this thing running niceee and your help would be most apppreciated i am new but i will help everyone else also i am mechanically inclined just wanted opinions and what not thanks guys

Do your lights blink with your stereo off?

Also, I would suggest picking up a Hayness manual if your going to get your hands dirty and dont have much knowledge. From now on it will be your bible .

If you have a powerful system and your lights dim with the bass, that is perfectly normal. If you don't have a capacitor then put one in and that could help, but it's not going to guarantee they won't dim at all.

Its wierd because they dont dim with the bass i can have the sound all the way down and still flickers so idk i was thinking of picking up a capictator but idk if thats the problem. Also i have alot of knoledge with mechanics iv been working on cars for a while now but never really messed with trannys so i figured id get some opinions and thoughts and what the problem could be.

yup, i agree with wrangler. buy a chilton's or haynes manual or both. if you're mechanically inclined, you should have no problem figuring out the tranny fluid question, they will tell you where the tranny drain and fill/check plugs are located.

The grinding at moderate driving is your synchros going out. It usually will start out only if you get on it. Then move to the moderate driving area. Then on to your light driving area. My friend's car did the same thing. It was indeed a synchro. He ended up buying another car to swap trannies out of. His father foot the ~3k bill for a removal/rebuild/install so he traded the other car for a DSM.

What I would recommend doing now is double clutching into second and third. Like the old days. Double clutching matches the input shaft speed to the chosen gear speed. Eliminating the grind. This will let you wing the car till you can afford to replace the synchros or swap in a known good tranny.

To do this, Going from first to second. Depress the clutch, Put the tranny in neutral, let off of the clutch, Depress again, shift into second, let off again. Easy as pie. Just remember. Make sure the engine speed stays constant. Because if it isn't, you are just wasting your time double clutching.

Yea i found out how to check wasnt hard to find out but w.e sorry guys first time working on trannys. But yea i been double clutching tommorow ima check the fluid but i doubt its that i am going to aamco see what they charge to replace the synchros or w.e needs to be replaced or ima just buy tranny from junk yard or parts car. And i guess tommorow i am going to figure out the lights problem i have no idea where to start ima start with subs see if thats the problem but i dont think so because it doesnt go with the bass just does it constantly on its own. So idk maybe grounds idk ima check everything electrical tommorow and let you no i got alternator battery etc.. checkedout by advanced auto everything is good to go so thats a start .
