Newb here, looking to get away from the boring world of mustangs and into a DSM (has to be awd) Just got a few questions, as I dont know crap about these cars.

I specifically want a 1G, (just like the looks) Is there a specific year I should look for? Avoid?

Is there any real differences between lasers/talons/eclipses besides looks?

Whats all this talk about 6 bolt, 7 bolt etc, Im assuming its diff cranks for the years? Any info is GREATLY appreciated, Ive lurked for awhile and searched a bit, just looking for something new and not as common as a foxbody

For the 1g, get a 6bolt motor and try to get the stronger 4bolt rear end. The 1990 year has some funky under the hood stuff which would be best to be avoided.

All DSMs are the same minus body.

6/7 bolt referes to the number of bolts on the flywheel. The 7 bolt is newer but has a higher chance to crankwalk which is why most people will swap to the 6 bolt motor. Late 1g (93/94) have a 7bolt block.

Good to know! What is this delete kit that goes on when messing with the timing belt, I cant remember the name of it but you guys get rid of something in there. Hows the stock awd trannys/rear diffs? Sorry for the basic questions, my mustang knowledge is useless here

balance shaft delete -- there s another belt in there with the timing belt and a lot of guys delelt it so it doesnt come flying off and thus go in and F your timing belt up

it will make your engine vibrate more but heck ive got a buddy whose got polyuithian mounts, 272 cams, and the balance shaft delete and his vibration at a stop light is noticable but not real bad,,

I have eliminated the balance shaft belt and my motor don't seem to vibrate anymore than it did stock but i don't have cams or anything else. Make sure the rear axles have 4 BOLTS going to the rear hubs because they are stronger. Other than that all 1G's are pretty much the same.

1st gen 7 bolts are not a problem, it's the 2g motors that sometimes have crankwalk issues.

90-91 have the flip-up headlights, 90 is a bastard year which has already been mentioned and should be avoided

You really need to decide if you like the flip-up headlights or not.

Technically speaking the 92.5 is the 'best', you can have your 6-bolt, no flipups to deal with and a 4-bolt rear stock..
