Just picked up a 97 eclipse gst spyder a few days ago and i love the car thus far. Its bone stock and i want to keep it that way for the most part. I read the tuning guides but i dont plan on going all out, i just want to give the car a little extra if i can for a reasonable price. I found this site but i'm not sure how reliable a source they are click here Is the Boost Control Solenoid restrictor mod safe? What i was planning on doing is putting on a K&N filter kit, removing boost control solenoid resistor, getting a manual boost controller, boost gauge, and upgrading the bov to something like the type-s or 1g. i am new to the turbo world so any help would be appreciated. I dont plan on upgrading the exhaust or downpipe/intercooler piping. i am not building the car for 1/4mi, just to have a fun reliable daily driver. So i guess i'm wondering if it is worth spending a few extra dollars on the things i mentioned above.

RRE is a reputable company for the most part. They are like everybody and make mistakes at times (everybody ont he internet does so just be carefull that things make sense). After all it is your car and you don't want to hurt it.

The BCS restrictor removal is a safe mod.

A manual boost controller is only as safe as you set it.

You will need to get a new UICP for a new bov. If you don't want to go all out just get a 1g inexpensive and reliable.

K&N filters (or similar) are always a good idea as they reduce particulate matter also.

Do a timing belt change, oil change, tranny fluid change, water pump change, etc

IMHO on your car you....don't need a MBC as the T25 won't do much more than you are doing stock, but then again they are cheap. Do the maintenance items first. Stick with the free mods for now ;)

OOPS almost forgot. Get the first mod your car really needs, a set of manuals and some forced induction reading for yourself.

great first mods would be

3" catback exhaust(either bolt on or take to muffler shop and custom make one)
K&N intake filter
Greddy Type-S BOV (with 2nd gen flange if you dont want to get newer upper and lower intake piping)
and if you want get some greddy style upper and lower intake pipes off ebay, they will be around 100 and come flanged to the greddy bov, look great and add a little better boost response.

do your maintenance on schedule, plugs, oil, filters(fuel, oil) and timing belt at each 60k interval(or 50k if your planning on making over 300hp, but 60k will suit your needs just fine)

and have fun with the car. love mine, i still have chicks sayin "yay a drop top, i wanna ride" and it never gets old. though backing out of parking spaces with the top up is a pain, as we have the biggest blind spot of any drop top ever created.

how much are you thinking on spending on mods? if i were you i would look into a cheap used 14b turbo off a 1g, the 14b has proven to run 11's with the right mods, and u can get one for around $300 after that just go to a salvage yard and pick up a 1g bov for about $30 so u can run little more boost and u should be quite impressed with the results for the money :)

thanks for the responses, just what i was looking for. I think i definately need to do some reading on forced induction. Right now i plan on putting a K&N filter pack, leaving the stock bov for now and maybe getting a queit exhaust like the RSR. I have no plans to change the amount of boost until i am more qualified to do so. I think maintence first, then see what i have left for funds. Is there an article anywhere on how to change the timing belt on 2g?

my first mods where , apex n1, apex downpipe, upper ic, greddy type s, and k&n filter! Went from 15.3 to 14.1
