Hello everyone, I have never owned a dsm and still don't. I am a gm muscle car guy but my woman has always wanted an eclipse. I have come to like them and we are currently looking at a 97 eclipse gst automatic. car has 121000 miles.

when I went to look at it today I noticed a few things even without ever seeing one of these engines. the vacuum line from the stock bov was broken off and someone T'd into it and installed an aftermarket boost gauge. the gauge was missing so the vacuum line was just open. car idled around 2000rpm. is that why?

Also I noticed a sensor just laying on the intake. I believe it to be a MAP sensor. where does it go? I couldn't find a spot anywhere for it. It had an oring on it and I knew it went somewhere. what problems would that cause?

another problem is that the car is in limp mode, stuck in third gear. ive been reading how to flash the transmission codes but couldn't do it today.

with all these issues, what would the car be worth? what kind of risk am I taking with the transmission? he wants $1800 but I think its too much, im taking all the risk with the tranny being bad and I would need to tow it over an hour away. Any help is appreciated.

This is where I would look at him and then say, why is that like that, how long, have u driven it like that, etc. (I'm betting he has, considering he started it for you without blocking it off or anything.)

Need pictures considering your not sure what it actually is and theres a lot of little stuff.

Not a good sign, expect doing a full rebuild and you cant even drive the car to test the turbo, and other driveline parts...

The transmission IS BAD. Don't let him fool you. Can I ask you why you want a FWD car? I would wait for a awd myself. I wouldn't pay any more then 700-1000 depending on if theres any rust, and any other issues in the drive line, etc.
I especially wouldn't buy this for my girl.

Yeah, im iffy about buying it. There are not alot of these for sale near me. I would rather a gsx. She wont drive a 5 speed so i have to find an auto.

When your looking for one of these, you want to find one either close to stock, and still all working condition or a really cleanly modded car thats been done properly, When you start getting into the "home tuned" cars by people who don't know what there doing your bound to find a LOT of issues. A LOT. When I bought my car, a belt was on upside down.... WTF and running perfect....:| And a broken rear axle. (still working 10k miles later but its rust welded into the hub and it broke off with most of it still in there. Lots of things can be wrong if you don't totally look over the car.

The car is completely stock. Im just worried about the tranny. Car fired right up just idled high. Body is in great shape, interior the same. Barcelona red.

Body looks good but what about underneath?

E: You live in a snowy area, so I say wait for an AWD. :) Keeps your girl more safe, and will be more realistic.

To much snow. Couldn't look under it. Snowed more since those pics

Ah, If you really still want it dont forget to check the drive line and axles for rust :thumb: imo check every inch for rust, its like aids it will spread and kill the car, and could kill you if your driving it.

I gotta say, the body looks really good, If that video is of under the hood you should make it viewable, it might be worth like 1,200, but for where you live I would look all around within a couple hours and try to find a clean car like this thats in AWD. :thumb:

If the car is stuck in limp mode dont assume it needs rebuilt that may not fix it my car is currently in limp mode right now i bought another tcu and overlooked all my sensors and found it to be the shift selenoids so 250$ fix not cheap but not a whole tranny. :thumb:

If its in limp mode should there be an engine light? I would buy the car if he lets it go cheap enough.

Let me check it

Fixed, sorry bout that

Okay, I think the bov is vented in this, either way on stock tune this is bad for the car and can cause engine failure eventually. (Only okay to vent your bov when your on Speed density tune.) :nono: The video was really bad quality so I couldn't tell for sure, but the BOV should be recirculating, and its the dark green part on the passenger side, and should be connected to the boost control solenoid.

E:Its above the fuse box and more on the passenger side of the battery. and its in the video at :31.00 seconds.

Im pretty sure its the stock valve. The vacuum hose coming out the sided is broken off.

I just told him its more trouble than its worth. Ill give ya 700

Oh...

He just told me 1400

The white hose nipple is broken off and the hose just hanging there.

I'm.going to go try and flash the codes with a multimeter. Pretty sure i understand how to do it.

I used an analog multimeter and the needle just kept going all the way up then back down and just kept repeating. So is that a bad tcu?
