Hello everyone!

So, let start out by saying this is my first DSM vehicle. I've always loved the 2G Eclipse body style, and I finally got the chance to own one, a 1997 Eclipse GST. Previous owner rebuilt the head and redone the timing (shown me pictures of old engine head and such) and basic maintenance has been performed. I recently bought an aftermarket turbo mani, new catback exhaust, front mount intercooler, and turbo intake. Id like to get in the boost and tweak with it a little bit. I've read the BCS is a popular delete if you run MBC or EBC, but one of my guys is telling that I should keep the BCS and take out the boost restrictor instead. So before going any further, I'm trying to get an opinion from the DSMTuners such as you guys. Any advice on mods/preventative stuff I should do before moving any further?

I'm new myself but from what I've read, aside from routine maintenance, DSMLink is a great 1st mod.

Link is god. if you do link you can use it to diagnose everything, AND cleanup that horrid vac tree and turn off any CEL from any mods down the line, adjust coolant temp warning temperature...just so many things. If i had a DD DSM it's mod would be link.

Go link. Please.

I checked into DSMlink and it seems like a good choice. Looks like it's around 550, correct?

+1 on DSMLink
Depends if you have a EEPROM ECU or not. Get a wideband and boost gauge too. Get to know what's really going on with your car and that it's running properly before you go throwing a whole bunch of mods on.

Do your research and read everything on this site, it might take awhile but it pays off. Plan out your build before buying parts, don't be in a rush to throw mods on that you might not need or won't benefit you.

Well before any increase in boost/modifications you should get a wideband. Even just with the mods you listed you could lean out. That should be your first mod. Then a better blow off valve. The 2g BOV is not good for much more then stock pressure. Also a better fuel pump or rewire kit. And a aftermarket clutch. Then you can get to the good stuff like engine management and turbos.

first do your maintenance, then follow the steps for the dsm upgrade path for 2g. Did my 2g that way and so far nothing but good things from me and mine was completely stock minus a headunit.

I'm planning on staying under 300hp. I'm not trying to make a track car, just a daily driver that has a nice get up and go. So I'm just trying to work with what I got. I've noted (maybe not here) but that my stock mani was f***ed to begin with. It needed replacement badly. Not sure where the PO got it. But the engine head was rebuilt and timing was done. Plan on doing a boost leak test when I get my FMIC in. Thanks for all the response. I do appreciate it

maintenance fmic 1g bov boost controller evo3 16g walboro 255 injectors fpr dsm link act2600 clutch intake 3inch turbo back 16 to 18 psi you'll be just around 300hp safe

I had an Evo 3 on my 2g and it was my dd. Very streetable and lag was no issue. Also it gives u room to grow. If you're going to spend the money I highly recommend at least a big 16g otherwise just get a used 14b it will be much cheaper

Have you done all your maintenance? if you do then Dsmlink is the first best mod available, plug and play and you have control on everything!

Look at it this way. If you buy a turbo, you have to remove and replace it, and its a pita for very minimal gain plus no supporting mods and you have to get dsmlink eventually to be able to make it run right.

Ecmlink forsure. A good start is an evo3 16g, 1g bov or greddy, ~750cc injectors, walbro 255 pump w/rewire kit, aeromotive a1000 fpr w/gauge, and necessary gauges like boost, wideband, oil pressure

if you have an upgraded exhaust and intercooler, your next bottleneck is the turbo on a 2g
your fuel systems good to 300 hp, the t25 turbo about 250

I am also new to DSM I am about to buy a 97 2gb TSI fwd .Eagle Talon is it a good buy at 1500 with a blown head gasket? From the seller

They are almost the same motor. Leave it. Better yet, learn how to prove it is a genuine evo 3 swap so you know you're not being lied to. If it has "2-step" then it might have DSMlink. Ask him to show it to you

whoa whoa whoa is it a 2003 jdm evo motor, or a evo 3 motor? evo 3 is 95/96 same as 2g, 2003 (03 as you stated) is an evo 8
evo 4-9 is completely different

Starting at the engine and working away is the best option. For both intake and exhaust. Except for starting at dropping the air box first thing of course. Haha
Sounds like you have the exhaust and turbo manifold in order. Those bends in the upper ic piping are gonna slow you down.
So start at air intake and the the upper ic pipes are my suggestion.
