New Tires for my 97' GS-T Spyder??

Hey guyz,

I am new to DSMtuners. I have a 97' Eclipse GS-T Spyder that has GoodYear Eagle RH tires (stock?). Being a front wheel drive car, my two front tires have very little thread left, so I need to replace them. I want tires that will last long, give me good grip (especially in the rain where my current tires suck!), and are a good value. Oh yea, also.. the tires should be COMMON (easy for me to get), so that I can pick them up locally in central Texas area. hehe.

Any suggestions on two new tires that I could replace instead of the Eagle RH tires?

Tire Size: P205/55R16

I heard (from friends) that you shouldn't have mismatched tires. So will it be bad if I have mismatched tires? My rears have about 70-80% thread left, so I don't want to replace them.

i just got some new rims and got falken tires...these tires are crazyyyy i highly recommend them i dont know if they come in your size though, but yes any tire from them i would recommend...mitch match tires dont make a difference i dont think just follow the proper max inflation weight and you should be fine....btw, i have falken ziex tires

Mixing tires are OK for FWD provided that you have the same tires on each end of the axle - same fronts left and right.

On AWD, it becomes an issue. Even the thread depth can affect the center differential so it means same tires on each end with the same amount of rubber.

When that happened to me, the first thing I did was to rotate my back tires to the front, but my fronts were still within useable specs. I've had Kumho Supra Ecstas, Pirelli P6000's, and Toyo something-or-others but my favorite are still my Pirelli P Zero Neros... I love 'em. They've lasted a long time but still have excellent grip, wet and dry.

I am actually looking for something not as steep in price as the "Pirelli P Zero Nero" tire. I don't argue that it is a good or bad tire (I read reviews from people who recommended it and didn't), but it is just too pricey - around $135 per tire.

How about Kumho tires? Or how about Yokohama tires? Currently looking at the "Yokohama AVS ES-100" : http://www.bmw325i.net/rev_yokohama_avs_es100.shtml Any good? I am looking for something less than $100 (or around that price) that has great traction.

i don't think cheap traction goes to well in the same sentence. i would also look into the BFG KDW2. they are a great alot around tire.

I run falken FK-451s in 225/50R16's on my FWD. They were 350 bucks for 4 shipped to my door. Can't complain and they get plenty traction.

Okay guyz.. I think I've narrowed it down.. just got one final comparsion, please give me your input!

It's gonna be between the Falken FK-451 (will these fit on stock rims??? ) & the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred

The only reason I am considering the Goodyear tire is because of treadlife. I'm not a hardcore street racer, while I do like to accelerate fast & corner quickly with my stock Eclipse GST. I just don't want the Falken tires to wear out after like 30-40K miles of light usage. My stock tires lasted me about 60-70K, so I would like similar to better results from my new tires.

So which one should I choose guyz? Let me know your comments & suggestions. Peace.

I vote for the Falkens They are the tires on my 2g in my sig.

Amazing how people rated them on that site though. Seems like people just pick numbers.
Definitly not good tires for cruising around in snow though

I personally don't like the falkens on my car.Their too hard for the limited amount of grip they provided me.I also only have 205-40-17's,so that might be an issue.For your spyder I vote the best bang for buck are the Kumho's,although their not that durable if you beat on your car alot.I had Pirelli's P7000 and those are beautifull tires!I would go with 225-50-16 if your still on stock rims.But i like to turn hard,this might be alittle too much rubber for straight line racing.

You can go with Falken Azenis sport RT-215 they come in 205-50-16 so they fit the stock rim and then falken also has the fairly new Azenis RT-615's which are really nice unfortunatly they only come in 215-40-16 which is low profile really low....So for now untill i get new rims and get some DOT slicks I ordered the RT-215's.
