Ok about a month ago my TCU went and cap's leaked everywhere. Got a new TCU for my car (91 awd tsi turbo). Put new TCU in today and wow to no surprise it was still in limp mode.

Now im getting a code 21 or 22, (I only have a digital multi-meter and its extremely hard to try and read these codes, anyone have any way to read them?).

Code 21 Open-Circuited Kickdown Servo
Code 22 Short-circuited Kickdown Servo

I believe these are the codes, but if they are would this only deal with the downshifts and not leave the tranny in limp mode.

I find it odd, tran's was working perfect before the tcu went, was getting no codes with old TCU and now with a new one it still is not working.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Was this new as in new or as in new to you? There's a whole lot of things that can cause limp in. I have a whole dossier on limp in. Most always it is the tcu. Sometimes shift solenoids short out. Sometimes pulse generator wires get cut or break off. I've even seen pulse generator connectors get crossed up with shift solenoid connectors. Get a Factory Service Manual. Find the section on diagnostics and follow it out. I wish there was only 2 or 3 things but it's not that simple on these.

I don't have a scanner on this computer or I would scan in a whole checklist of things I could give you.

Anyway, good luck to you.
