I just got my car completely together and went for a test drive. the boost hit 25psi before i caught it. i run a new style (low profile top and v-band) tial 38mm WG mounted at the O2 housing and recirculated to 3" exhaust with 1 bar spring. the turbo is an evo3 16g with factory internal WG flapper held open (via bracket).

The new tial 38 now has two side ports and one top port. I've read every post saying to use the side port and vent the top...WHICH SIDE PORT NOW? The way I have it is vacuum going to the bottom (closest to base), the upper side port plugged and the top port vented. Did I screw up?

I also seem to be dealing with a dying alternator...a few of my dash lights flicker and from what I've read just now all points to my alternator. Could this be a possible reason for not being able to rev (in neutral) past 5k RPMs?

Definitely possible. I have had several failing alternators and thats happened to me a few times.

I don't have experience with that exact valve but they all operate basically the same. If your running a MBC or no BC, you should be connected to the bottom port. Believe this WG has several bottom ports make sure all the others that your not connected to are plugged as leaving one open will cause an issue. I thought this WG has 3 lower ports, not just two like you mentioned? If you missed plugging one, thats probably your issue. The top port should also be vented to atmosphere with this style of setup (ie for an EBC both connections are different). Make sure the top port is venting properly. If these both check out, make sure your boost source line is correct & also check internal springs to verify you have the correct one installed.

Edit: Just looked at the Tial site & yes there should be 3 lower ports. If you only connected to one & plugged one, you still have one vented, which will cause your boost control issue.

yes you are right three ports at the lowest part of the body, then one in what would be the middle, and one directly on top come to find out. doesn't matter though, i plugged two and have a line on one at the bottom, plugged the middle, and vent the top but it does nothing.

i have yet to take it apart for the spring, but how much a difference is it if the vac line runs from the intake manifold after the TB rather than before it like it says? from what I've read through searches it doesn't

verified correct spring, switching to 6mm line as it calls for. does it make a difference if its before or after the throttlebody like it says?

The hole that you call the middle, where exactly is that located (ie above or below the diaphragm?). Have you tried to physically move the plunger to make sure its not binding on something? Have you verified your getting pressure on your source line? Shouldn't matter what side of the TB the source line is coming from as long as your seeing the correct pressure at the source location. Personally I wouldn't source from either of those locations, you'll get better respone taping it much closer to the turbo outlet/compressor cover.

Well i ordered some vac nipple fittings and some true 6.5mm silicone hose. planning on taping into my j pipe. If after this it still doesn't work i dunno what i'm going to do. i have a vac signal, to 1 of 3 lower (beneath diaphragm) ports. The "middle" is above the diapgragm and is plugged. Top is open. this is with 1/4 ID rubber gas line (hardware store quik test). I have to do my alternator swap in a day or two but after that i'm going to remove one or the springs in the WG to lower the opening point and see what happens.
