depends on what your going for. I'm getting the stage 3. I don't really care how its drivablity is. The stage 2 is firm, but very drivable. I've been trying to decide on stage 3 or 4. I want to still cruise, so I'm thinking the 3. I've drove both, and the 2 is a better drive. They were on neons though

Im using the Stage IV and driveability wasnt hindered at all. I just wanted some extra insurance that my clutch would grab on good.

Personally I would say not to be concerned with comfort or anything. I havent noticed a real huge difference in the everyday. You will have chatter but from what Ive read thats completely normal.

Enjoy!

spec. cluches are awsome!!! im planning on gettting one getting a stage 4 with a 6 pluck only a little stiffer then stock and it comes in both 3 and 6 pluck... im getting 6 pluck because its a smoother ingage... delivers the weight evenly across the cluch better then a 3 :thumb: are you getting the aluminum fly wheel its like 400 but its worth it if you ask me quicker rev gotta love it ;)

Just wondering if you guys went with the flywheel which one would you get? Fidanza?

Wow you resurrected an old thread... Most 2g n/t's clutch assembly's are modular(with the exception of some 95's) meaning all of the disks and the pressure plate are rivited together. On the SPEC website there should only be one availible flywheel to upgrade to.

no kidding. I've got the Spec stage 3 in mine now. Let me tell you... absolutly beautiful! I love that clutch. Very firm pedal, clutch engages like a mofo too! It really is all grip no slip. I get worried, cause I bet this clutch would blow my axle out on a hard launch.

I know they make non-modular conversions for neons, so I'm pretty sure they would work on our cars. I would stick with the modular clutch. Not much weight saving and a hell of a lot easier to install.

Definitely have to agree here!

My Stage 1 South Bend Clutch engauges so nice, it's amazing how hard it jerks on a hard shift. Scares me thinking something will break.

Hey snoop, how is that working out for you? You drive that thing daily? I'm trying to decide between Spec Stage 3 and stage 4 for my daily driver.

Chris, before you buy a spec anything, look into South Bend Clutch in Indiana. Andy has much better products and is willing to go beyond and custom make whatever you need. AMS uses them for anything out of the ordinary.

Spec clutches are becoming more and more problematic.

Wow! Chris I haven't seen a post from you in a long time?! Of course I'm not on here that much anymore either.

I wouldn't get the stage 4 for a daily.. unsprung clutchs are on/off switches

Apparently you haven't heard much about my car... LOL. I got the new motor in and got 1800 miles into it and the brand new timing belt snapped. I've only put 600 miles on my clutch, so 100 of rippin it. I took my car through the Woodward Dream Cruise here in Detroit and it was kind of a nightmare to drive...LOL. The pedal is really heavy now, the pressure plate is nuts.

It engages incredibly smooth, the only thing is to learn the clutch. It has a VERY short engage area, and its almost at the end of the pedal. All in all, I love it!

I tried starting my car sunday, but I think the gas is bad... its 1/8 tank and its been sitting for 10 months. So I'm getting fresh oil and gas on thursday and going to try to fire her again. She has amazing compression, 220 across the board. It just won't run, it wants to, but because of the gas it won't start, I think...

I had read about the problem with the stage 3 clutches and read that spec had fixed the problem. What other problems are they having? I have looked at South Bend clutches before, but basically it comes down to price. It will be $200 more for south bend clutch equivalent when compared to the Spec stage 3 or 4 modular, and I am crunched for money as it is.

Hey man, its been a while hasn't it? Yeah I disappeared for a little bit, busy with school, but I've been pretty active as of late. I read about your timing belt, that sucks man, hope you get that worked out. Well with that information, It looks like I'll be getting the stage 3, if of course Terry doesn't have some info that sways my position.

I strongly agree with Terry. I went with a SBC clutch. Andy helped me more than I'd ever imagined someone could help over the phone.

As for the price thing, I disagree. While talking to Andy we went through my driving habits, trips to the track, how often I race etc. After all of that he recommended the stage one(rally edition). He was also very confident that the his stage one will out perform a SPEC stage 2.

At least call SBC before you decide and purchase a SPEC clutch. Talk to Andy and see what he can do for you. To me, if the customer service is great, I'm willing to pay alittle more.

But I don't have more to spend HAHA. Alright alright, I'll give them a call... But I don't think a stage one will be strong enough, my goal is 400whp :rocks:

No a stage 1 will not be enough for you. I knew that to begin with:p

I was simply recommending that you give them a call to see if they can work something out for you. Their products are great and again, the customer service is unbeatable. I messed up a part of the TOB that came with mine and he sent me a new one immediately. Like Terry said they can make something to fit your needs. Even if it isn't on the website. He also might point something out, as to why you shouldn't go with a SPEC clutch, due to a difference in design.

I got an awesome deal on a South Bend OFE...claimed to out perform the SPEC 3, yet for the little I've driven on it...couldn't even tell it was different from stock ;) +1 for Andy :thumb:

I've got the spec stage 3+ Definately on the pricey side, but it helps when your not paying for it, and a shop is. $609, but after having it I understand why.

Its got a very light pressure plate alowing for an easy daily driven pedal feel, but the engaugement is like a stage 4. The torque rating is around 475-500, and well I see why.

Chris I would definately take a serious look into the southbend clutches as well, especaially if they offering some deals that can out bid and out perform the spec clutches for your long term goals.

P.S. does anyone have a light weight aluminum flywheel installed on they're modular system?

I havent met too many people at all that have tried the lightened flywheel but the one or two i have met on 2gnt have complained that the idle characteristics are not good. There just isnt enough rotating mass to keep the engine spinning to establish a good idle.

I havent tried one based on these few people with the same complaint.

Terry

I also have the lightened flywheel and I've not had any idle issues at all so I'm not positive why they are having those issues. I've also not had any issues with the spec clutch to hinder its use. No problems here! I think it's a great clutch personally!

Yeah im goinig to have to say something to hopefully save you guys. I have a spec stage 2 and in result of that clutch it blew my motor up by knocking the crank off balance and now it just blew my trans. Hahn Racecraft says it blew my trans becuae spec sucks and it enganes way to rough which it does the entire car shakes like no tomorrow when engaging. So just word of thought give them a call and talk to them about those clutches cause i will surley never buy one again. Id go clutchmaseter its expensivve but worth the money. They have a unique spring loaded mechanism in the clutch plate that allows it to engage smoothly but firmly without hurting the trans. my trans had 100k miles on it exaclty and took a shit. Dont go cheap and dont underestimate the power of a clutch and how it can really #### your day up next thing u know u willl be like me i had to rebuild the motor but with forged stuff;) and now i need a trans thinking about getting a custom built double syncro crazy limited slip trans.

Anyone have the stage 3 and have a really soft pedal. Im talking lighter than stock? What does this mean?

I've had the Spec stage 3 for about 2 years now and I havn't had any problems with it. The pedal pressure feels extremely light compared to my friends stock 4cyl avenger.
