Sounds like you got a topline kit like I did. Belt didn't last. And 17$ is not the timing belt that is most likely the balance shaft belt. these are interference engines, meaning if the tbelt breaks , parts interfer with each other.

Then fix price is allot more than just a belt. Valve jobs are around 175$. Valves are 9$ each for the right valve. Head gasket kits are 80$. & your timing belt will be around 60_100$ since I hope you won't make same mistake twice.

If you guys break Ebay stuff, please give me info on where you bought your products. Who was the seller, is he still in business ? What were the items you bought ? If you do not have this information, stop giving false statements "Belt will snap"... Not all Ebay items are trash and not worth buying, 2 people from this forum already told me that items are in great shape and only thing need from Dealers are pensioners. They them selves looked at items, and non of them suggested to go and spend 250$ on a stupid timing belt kit from dealers... Please read on the post i made earlier. "Mitsubishi never had their belt factories" meaning that they have always ordered their belts from third party manufacturers, and if you go buy "MITSUBISHI" belts, it is for a fact not theirs. Yet i have another counter argument from those who say EBAY items are bad: You think you are mechanic and you go under your hood to fix stuff up, never do that unless you have practice on working with these cars.

I will stop arguing and this post can be closed.

Yes it can get so annoying when everyone on here says oem or its crap, and yea most of the suff for mitsubushi had other companies make the parts for them. Usually if you go to partsgeek it will tell you which company's makes a certain oem part for them and it will have a little "oem" text underneath it. Hopefully that will help you out when your looking for parts if you didn't already know

Thank you for one answer that made sense out of all that had been posted.

To do a boost leak test you would have to build a tester or buy one online, you would take off the intake pipe off the turbo and connect it to that, and pressurize the system with air, before that ryou cap off the bov, vacuum line coming from the intake manifold and the line going to the wastegate, there's alot of tutorials online. You can go to youtube and watch j"afromobiles" page he does everything dsm on his 2g gsx. You probably could have found a valve cover cheaper. Boost leaks will make the car studder/misfire under boost. And I would turn the boost down until you know what's in the car.

from my personal exsperience on ebay items they are terrible i have purchased BOV off ebay that leaked AFPR that lasted a month before the seals blew off even headlights shorted out on me now 85 for a timing belt kit sounds like a good deal but my water pump alone was 75 from a reliable vendor such as STM tuned. The last thing i purchased off ebay I went and looked for the more exspensive brand hoping it would last i spent 750 on a t-25 turbo when my stck 1 blew it lasted 2 weeks and I even messaged a turbo rebuilder on here for correct ways to install it.

moral of the story stay away from ebay for parts especially such critical parts as timing belt componets it may sound good now but how long do you truely believe itll last and yes the parts may look good just like those parts I purchased but that does not mean they wil perform good I lost alot of money because of those parts and had to rebuy some from reliable vendors and I swaped to a genuine small 16g from jusmx141 that I beat the hell out of and has lasted me almost a year now. You say you plan on keeping the car for a long period of time if thats true spend the money and dont make the same mistakes I did with ebay.
