new motor, need help

I just put my motor in and the battery along with new terminals. The positive starter wire is by itself on the starter and the negative is on a starter bolt. My problem is when I put the positive terminal on the battery all my lights come on and nothing will turn off. Where should I start to look for bad grounds or is the starts wired wrong?

Sounds like something is crossed, reverse the wires, it seems something is getting power when it shouldnt.

When you mean all your lights do you mean all your lights? headlights, tails, turn signals, dashboard lights, radio, gauge cluster, etc? Knowing exactly everything that turns on and what doesn't may help pinpoint the issue. Let us know

Have you checked you Alternator fuse? When they blow they can cause all of your above symptoms.

Check fuses, and make sure all the terminals are making a good, good Contact.

Clean all the spots, and sand where the wires attaches to the Bell housing.
Also check if you have ground to the firewall as well, which some times it makes a bad connections and cause some problems as well.
