I have a '92 laser, everything is pretty much stock. I put a new motor in it and at first it would start but die like 2 or 3 seconds later. It was pretty hard to start and when it did start it would run poorly. I tried the next day to start it and it didn't do nothing, it didn't turn over or anything. I thought it was a dead battery so i tried jumping it off and still nothing. It doesn't even click or anything. So we brought a battery charger and put it on the battery for awhile and still nothing, we even tried it on the high starting power setting. As soon as we turned it on that even with no key in the ignition there was a buzzing noise which sound like it was coming from the ecm and when i put the key in the ignition it the noise got a littler louder. So i took that to my friends dad and he tested it and said everything was fine. So i pretty much have no idea what to check for and i hate spending all that money on a new motor and i can't even enjoy it. Any ideas on what to check? thanks in advance.

Did the car run before u did the motor swap. Or was it running when u owned the car. I would check the engine by trying to turn it over manually by using a socket wrench on the crank pulley bolt. So you had the ecu checked to see if it was bad??

This could be a fluke that i had. I did a motor swap in my probe that i had. Me and my friend did everything right. And went to try to start it and nothing notta. Nothing even clicked. So i turned the key to the ON position and manual jumped the starter by using a heavy 8 guage wire and ran it from pos on battery to pos on starter. And ever since then the car started normal with the key.

But check to make sure that the engine turns over with the socket wrench first.
Let me know what u come up with

the timing jumped on the old motor and messed it up pretty bad, thats why i put the new motor in there. And yes the car has ran since i have had it. my parents bought it brand new in '92 and its been in the family ever since. (cool parents huh? tubro and a 5-speed LOL! if only it was awd ) i guess i will check the starter thing you said and see if that works and also turning over the motor manually. Any other suggestions from anyone? thanks for the help

Probably checked already, but if you had the starter out you may want to make sure all the wires went back in the original place.
