I look at it like this EXXON/Mobile/Imperial Oil is the largest oil company in the world. They have oil/gas processing facilities all over the world and have spent billions on research & developement of synthetic oils. Are you going to trust your engine with them or oil made at a little facility in Wisconsin (Amsoil) that was developed by a fighter pilot?

Go Google the A.S.T.M. tests that Amsoil use, that might help explain things a bit better.
There exist very specific testing protocols for motor oil which will allow you to measure the physical characteristics of the oil in question.

It doesn't matter who or what oil you choose. Whatever you do decide to run stick with it, THAT is what it best for your engine. It is not recommend to switch from brand to brand or weight to weight. Just pick one and stick with it. The previous owner of my car ran Mobil 1, so that is what I am running in it. I ran Synergyn Oil in my previous 1g, mostly cause it was available where I worked at the time. Synergyn is GOOD stuff though!

I have been running the Mobil 1 15w50 Extended Life stuff. But companies change labels all the time, it doesn't mean that the formula has really changed. I run it in my DSM and my Lawnmower. I don't care what the label says, it still gets changed out of my DSM every 3-3.5k mies. I can attest though, that once I put this oil in my 10+ year old lawnmower that it starts much easier, runs smoother and quieter like a champ ;). And I guess I have no complaints about running it in the DSM, the main difference is that it was thicker than what I had been running and so it starts a bit easier (probably worn rings) and smokes less (probably less oil leaking through my valve guide seals). I've heard good things about synthetics over Conventional oil, but mostly I feel good about using Synthetic as a way to break dependence from foreign/ middle eastern crude oil.

Honestly i run Mobile 1 :rocks: in my car because my car ran better with it. I tryed a few different oils and I can honsetly say that Mobile ! has earned its spot in my car. About that 15,000 mile deal, thats more likely for a car that is driven "right" and is not boosted. When i say right i mean not punching it at least 2 a day or taking it to the track here and there, I mean lets face it guys 15,000 is a big number for a car that I hate to say it. . .is . . .old. AM not saying that the oil isnt good because i think its better than the reg. stuff but I do think its not safe. At the most like what other dsmer said is 5,000 miles. Thats just my 2 cents. :rocks:

ok im in an engine building class and we actually just talked about this, yes the oil will last as long as they say it will with out breaking down. BUT!!! just cause the oil is still good doesnt mean that there isnt a ton of shit in it. the oil lasts longer but the crap still gets in it. so do you really want all that crap running through your motor in the "still good oil" i know i dont. change it every 3000 whatever kind it is

It sounds right and all, but how do you meter something like that? Like what are the serious faults by doing this? I just bought my car from some dealership(who didnt seem they knew shit about it) and doubt they would know... what if i don't like what i put in there this time and go with a different brand (gunna go same or lighter weight)... i can't understand how premature wear, let alone anything would be affected by it...

I already bought some oil 3 weeks ago for my old beater ( which was taken to walmart instead... yea i dont care about it) 10-30w quaker state (cheap stuff but heard decent things about them... and not the cheapest i could find)..... now just looking upon here I see people dont like quaker... and already wanna try something else....

sorry if it seems im disregarding your knowledge or anything (because i truly have no idea what im talking about most of the time) but please pelease explain this to me

oh yea and to stay on topic : i wouldnt trust going 15k on an oil change either.... wouldnt you need a suped up oil filter for this to successfully work?
